Teamwork. Practice. Hardwork. Many many hours of training. Determination. Just a few things that you need to be an Olympic athlete. Today is the first day of the Olympics in Athens, Greece.
I am quite excited as I hope that India & USA do really well in their respective fields. For so many years as I have been watching Opening Day of the Olympics, always looking for the Indian team to see how many athletes are represented and in what sports so that I could watch them.
Other than cricket, did you know that we have many great athletes in India? It seems that many athletes get overshadowed because of the cricket team.
WITHOUT LOOKING OR RESEARCHING — how many athletes are representing India in this year’s 2004′s Olympics in Athens? 1 point for each correct athlete name and 1 extra point for the name of their respective sports. For instance, Michael Jordan – Basketball = 2 pts.
Answers and prizes will be given shortly. No points for any repeated answers.
Alvida. Jai Mata Di.
[Ankur] – where are you located and then I can make my judgement on why you don’t know.
You can’t name just one?
Hi Poonam, I am from Delhi.
The thing is people are interested in sports, where the players perform well. Thats why Cricket is India’s most favorite sport.
As regards naming a player I think Leander Paes (Tennis) must be participating. I dont have any idea about any other olympic sport or athletic event
Aacha Delhite.
Cool man. I really don’t like Delhi..just never had any good experiences there.
Leander Paes! Good job! 1 point for Ankur!
That’s my exact point that these other athletes that are going to the Olympics should also get as much attention as the Indian cricket team ( I know the Olympics will definitely perform better than how our cricket team is performing!
).
Poonam, one thing i learnt in Infosys.. is that you should suspend your judgement… in layman terms.. never make any judgement before fully analyzing & knowing about a thing/scenario etc.. Go to delhi.. and i will tell you how to freak out there… I’m sure you will love it.
Olympics.. can you think that any indian can get back a medal surely… naah… india will get max 1 or 2 medals.. not more than that… and cricket team is far better.. do watch the upcoming ICC champions trophy, Natwest Challenge, Ind-Pak-Aus tri-series etc… atleast indian team always reacht he finals. and finish second best..
Ans for your contest/quiz:
Leander Paes
Mahesh Bhupati
Dhanraj Pillay
Anju
Adrian D’Souza (hockey goalkeeper) – his brother Ashley is an infoscion and works in Pune
[Manpreet] – After writing my comment about Delhi to Ankur…main soch rahi thi ke anyone will say anything about it — it will be Manpreet.
Agreed. I will come and visit Delhi ONE more time…and then make up my mind.
I never said that cricket is not good – even I like it, but I do not find it fair that these athletes who train really hard all year long (even harder than the cricket team
) don’t get the recognition and credit that they deserve. I think it would definitely impact their performance if they really had that feeling that they had support from their patriots back in India.
You did really well and take the lead! 5 solid points!
I can’t give you Leander Paes because already said by Ankur.
Very cool about Ashley working in Infosys in Pune.
Small world!
thanks for visitting my blog and wowwww I am really excited to know you !!!
This is really a small world and I am still shocked, indeed
Nice to meet you and talk to you againnn
The problem lies with Indian Olympic Council (IOC)… they are a bunch of politicians who don’t know how to manage sports & generate revenue… and then compare it with BCCI… it works like a truly professional body.. under Dalmiya, India has become the powerhouse of world cricket…
India has plenty of talent… but its the administration & resources which it lacks… Just have a look where Indian Hockey these days.. result of bad politics.
[Mona] – Thanks for stopping by! Keep coming!
Its amazing how many things we have in common! I am really excited to have known you!
So much more to share with you soon!
[Manpreet] – All that is fine but why can’t the Indian people support these athletes?? I didn’t get that in your argument. These people have worked hard…they don’t have anything to do with this IOC and whatever committee… I just think that we should rallied behind them instead of ignoring their accomplishments.
i think india has about 71 atheletes at athens this time, kaun kaun..i dont know:)
Hello Jai.
Bahut dino baad dikhe ho.
Ek ka bhi naam nahi pata? Khair koi baat nahi…total number toh pata hai..that’s better than what most people know!
India wins a silver… atleast, we will not be coming empty handed now… Great!
It is great. Even I had heard that Rathore had won! Hopefully we will have some more winners!
