The Great Mobile Missing Caper — Solved

Posted on October 7th, 2004 by Poonam

Background Information: Read yesterday’s post.

Yesterday, the rickshaw wallah’s friend, who is actually his roommate, had told Neeraj to call at 9 am IST to choose a place to meet in Hirenandani. This morning he called and the mobile was switched off. :irked: Neeraj sent me an email after getting to the office, and he had lost hope in getting back his mobile.

Then Neeraj went back to do his work and later the rickshaw wallah’s friend calls Neeraj’s friend, the contact number that Neeraj had given him. Neeraj asked why the mobile was switched off, and the guy explained that once he told the rickshaw wallah that Neeraj had called for his mobile, he then didn’t want to give it back. He told his friend that he would send it to his family in the village. He also claims that the rickshaw wallah had the phone, so he must have switched it off by taking out the SIM card. The friend of the rickshaw wallah, who was speaking, said that they finally convinced the rickshaw driver to give back the cell so they wanted to meet Neeraj in Andheri (which is about an hour away from his office) to return the mobile. They told Neeraj not to contact the police. (just like they do in the movies :rotfl: )

So Neeraj told me and I advised him to take a friend along, just in case if they cause problems. Neeraj had also told them previously that if they don’t return the mobile that he was going to file a police complaint. (which is I think one of the reasons they became interested in giving the phone back)

So then they met and as they are giving back the mobile, they requested that Neeraj give them money for it. They wanted 1500 Rs. but Neeraj didn’t have that much cash on his hands. So the guys said to give 1300 Rs.

Neeraj got his mobile back and now is happy, even though he had to give them money. I told him that I hope that he has learned something from this and will be more careful next time.

One thing that’s funny is that Neeraj’s friend, Anil is in Mumbai, and he must have checked out our website yesterday and read my post and thought that he would do something about it. So then he had called Neeraj’s mobile and told those guys that they should return the mobile , or he would call the cops, etc… This caused confusion with those guys because they thought that Anil was saying that the mobile was his. So the guys then told Neeraj that they will give the mobile to the guy who could tell them the license plate number of the rickshaw.   Neeraj then convinced them that he has previous bills to prove that the mobile was his, so then they agreed to give it to him.

Its been an odd two or three days. because of this mobile. Neeraj, don’t do this again my love.

I am going home tomorrow — 1.47 pm is my flight and will reach Chicago @ 3.05 pm. Then going to rent a car and get home around 6 pm.

Alvida. Jai Mata Di.
