Current Tune: Jaio Jaio Maa Jagdambe

Mata RaniToday is the last day of Navratri. I have had the pleasure of going to our mandir almost everyday for the past nine days in celebrating Navratras with Mata Rani. Those of you who have been following our blog, you can see that I am quite the bhakt of Mata Rani. She has played such a major part in my life and my family’s life, that its hard not to celebrate the greatness that she is in these nine days.

Today is Asthmi and on this day we do kanchka (little girls) pooja. Mata Rani always had kanchka with her always, so that is why a day is devoted to just them. Ever since I was very young, my mother would wake me up early in the morning and wash my feet with rice and water, put a tikka on my forehead, give prasadam, and a gift. That same thing happened to me today. A bittersweet moment it was for me, as this might be the last time that I shall be doing this tradition with my mother.

With only two days left of garba/raas, I am enjoying as much as possible with the family. I am even taking along my tabla today as Kavita is going to sing as I play for her in the background. My family has been busy since this morning making tonight’s prasadam at the mandir, as it is our special day to bring prasadam today.

I hope that those in India had an enjoyable Navratri celebrations. For those in USA, I hope that you all as well enjoy the good times of Navratri today.

Mata Rani ke ghar main dher sahi, par andher kabhi nahi. Jo sukh main yaad karega, woh kabhi dukh nahi paayega.

Jaio Jaio Maa Jagdambe!

Jai Kara Sheronwali Da — Bol Saache Darbaar Ki Jai!

:hyper: woww this celebration sounds very interesting, I really wanna see it real and of course wanna see you playing garba :P I like seeing people playing garba, is that difficult ?

Why this is the last time that your mother can put a tikka on your forehead, wash yorur feet with water and rice, etc ?

Have a great day in the last day of Navratri :rotfl:

    A Halwa-Puri Day

There are two parts Mona, there is garba, which is basically doing some steps in a circle. I think this is harder because the steps require you to go forward, backward, make turns, etc… Then there is raas (dandiya) which you play with a partner and basically its done with two sticks. First you hit your two sticks together, then you hit your sticks with your partner twice, then you hit your two sticks together again, and last hit your partner’s sticks. Then you move on to the next person and do this rhythm over again. Will have to show you my pics from previous Navratri celebrations. I think you will enjoy! Maybe one day we will get to play together when Accenture sends you to the USA or me to Indonesia.

The reason Mona that I won’t get a chance to do that tradition with my mother anymore is because its done only with unmarried girls. With good hopes, Neeraj and i will be married by next Navratri.

Yes Ankur, today was Halwa-Puri day. Wah wah kya mazza aayi!
