IndiaGiftHouse? Think Twice Before Buying!

Posted on November 3rd, 2004 by Poonam

This year I was late sending tikka to my cousins in India so Mumma suggested to go online and send it through the Internet. I knew of a few sites such as HomeIndia, IndiaPlaza, and EShakti that you could use to send gifts to India. So I started searching last Saturday but I didn’t find anything I liked on those sites. The next best thing is to search on Google. Many different sites came up and IndiaGiftHouse looked like something I liked.

I was sending it to my cousin-brother Vidhur in Delhi and he is about 6 years of age. So I wanted something that included chocolates or sweets so that he would get something that he likes. IndiaGiftHouse had one with chocolates, tikka, rola, etc.. and all for $8.95 in a nice Pooja thali. I ordered that and put it on my credit card.

Sunday I get an email saying that my credit card has been declined from IndiaGiftHouse. So I sent them an email why it has been declined (because I was using the credit card with no problem). No response. :grumpy: Monday I get an email from them saying that my payment has been processed. What?!? But how can it be processed if my credit card was declined??? :censored: :banghead:

They have a section on their website where you can check your order status. I put in my order number and my email ID and the response it shoots back at me: ORDER NUMBER NOT FOUND! :censored: What the heck????????? Aargh. :irked:

This is so messed up. Now its Wednesday and I even tried calling their support number in USA which just takes you to a voicemail. :banghead: I have been sending them continuous emails from my email ID as well as from their site, now today I have left them a message as well on their voicemail. How the heck am I suppose to know if my order has been processed or not? :irked:

I am very upset with this company! NEVER buy from IndiaGiftHouse. They are horrible. These Indian companies need to learn what CUSTOMER SERVICE means!! Geez louise. If you can’t even hire someone to answer your dang phone, then how the heck are you running a business??? :grumpy:

Most likely they don’t have a lot of customers anyway, but they just lost one that might have bought another thali if they would just give me some service! :irked:

So even though some of the other companies that are well-known have more expensive gifts, atleast I will know that I will get the service that I deserve!

:irked: oh my gosh that was very very terrible !!!!

That’s why sometimes I feel a bit freak out when I want to order something in the internet, just afraid that there will be something wrong. I am really careful in buying or ordering something from the internet. Suhadi is worse, he never wants to order anything from internet, he is paranoid for giving his credit card no to anybody

Again that’s very very bad … I hope they will give you a feedback soon. :irked:

  2. Abhishek Says:

Its better to check a company’s whereabouts before ordering because some of them may be scams. Why don’t you try Rediff, its one of the biggest Indian companies (heard of Rediffmail… ;)). Go to the Rediff site and look on the right for Diwali gifts… :)

  3. Poonam Says:
You know Mona, I used to be the same. I have never had a problem with online ordering (because I buy my phonecards from the net all the time) until now. This is the first time I was buying a gift and here is the problem! Anyway, let’s hope for the best. Tell Suhadi that its not that bad anymore. Sometimes due to convenience and price, the net is the best way to go. Just you have to know where you are buying from, like Abhishek is saying.

You know Abhishek, I checked out the site and once I saw that they have a support number in USA, I was thinking that this must be a legitimate company. I should have been more careful and now have learned the lesson. They haven’t charged my credit card yet (atleast its not on my statement ) so we will see what happens. I saw the Rediff site. I go there all the time but didn’t see anything good for Bhai Dooj.

Thanks for the info though!

Shopping online - could turn out to be nightmare
One should always verify and buy from a trusted company of which it’s heard of, friends have used it etc and has the credibility and good customer support Its also important to check which facility do they use to…

  5. Puneet Says:

that was a trackback which i think got messed did not come properly :banghead: might be somehting to do with WP and MT

  6. Ankur Raheja Says:

    These Indian Online Stores :eyebrow:

Here also daily large number of buyers get fooled, on sites like Bazee.com, by different sellers but site management sleeps over it

Anyway, I hope your gift reaches your cousin by Rakhi 2005
    Good Luck!

  7. Poonam Says:
Thanks for the trackback Puneet. I fixed it. I bet you are right, it must have been the WP/MT thing. No problem dost, its fixed.

Rakhi 2005? Ankur, my family will come after me with a danda if that happens! It happens on Bazee as well? I didn’t know that. I have looked on that site a few times but never found anything I liked.

These Indian companies need to learn how to run a legitimate business instead of these scams!

  8. Ankur Raheja Says:

  9. Abhishek Says:

Its not possible to happen on Bazee because you do pay with a credit card there. Besides the products there are handled by completely individual sellers and its not possible for the company to go after each seller (since there are thousands) and verify their credibility. And there is a link to report a vendor in case of some disturbance and it works.

  10. Poonam Says:
You pay by credit card here as well on the IndiaGiftHouse site. Interesting Abhishek about the Bazee site. I have been there a few times, never found anything but it makes sense that they are not able to go to each individual seller.
  11. Ankur Raheja Says:

It seems Abhishek had a good experience at Bazee. Maybe he has some approach

My experience was 50-50. But my complaint was never heard :grumpy:
Plus ‘Bazee Cafe’ section is full of complaints! :faint:

  12. Sushubh Says:

Want to know why IndiaGiftHouse suck?

Coz it’s a website from IndiaMart. A company specializing in Google bombing. So, whatever you search related to India, you are most likely to fall on one of their websites.

Froogle is one of the biggest victims of theirs. Rakhi was one good example where my friend (who owns tajonline.com something) found out about their spamming the Google results on Froogle.

As one previous dude suggested, Rediff indiatimes and baazee are the few websites worth trusting in India. Nothing else.

IndiaMart is one of our competitors (we are just a startup; they are the Microsoft of our industry). :) So I know…

  13. Poonam Says:
Interesting and good knowledge building information Sushubh, but what do I do about India Gift House now? I have been trying to contact IndiaGiftHouse and I get no response. I don’t even know if my thali got delivered. Who the heck should I contact to report about them or am I kinda stuck and lost out on my money?? :grumpy: :banghead:

if you have any suggestions let me know because i need it! :irked:

Next time I am going to be more careful. I had a really bad experience with this India Gift House. They really do suck.

  14. Sushubh Says:

really cannot help :) i don’t visit their websites. they rarely support opera. :)

  15. Poonam Says:
Oh ok, no problem. I thought being a person in that field you might have some insight. I guess I will send my relatives out to their Delhi location to hunt them down!
  16. Sushubh Says:

    2 things…

    1. By linking to them again and again, you are indirectly helping them get better ranks on Google. So use this code to link to them without helping them

    2. You got an entry on my rant forum :p

  17. Poonam Says:
Thanks for the information Sushubh. i didn’t know about the Google rank thing. Anyway, I made the changes on the links on this post and keep it in mind for the future.

Will check out your forum next.

  18. Sushubh Says:

    u don’t get comment spam? :O

they spam you to get links on ur site to link to their sites. Google and many other search engines gauge the importance of a website by the number of links pointing to it. :)

so if u want to link to india gift house… best is to link to ur own post on them. :)

  19. Poonam Says:
I rarely get comment spam because of a nice spam protector (three strikes plugin).

For some reason I thought that I would be hurting India Gift House if I was linking them…true or false?

..best is to link to ur own post on them

Isn’t that what I did? :eyebrow: Confused. :???:

  20. Sushubh Says:

never mind. its always tough to explain stuff to a chick … :banghead:

    :duck:

  21. Poonam Says:
Only because guys don’t know how to explain anything! :rotfl:
