Changing with Technology

Posted on November 18th, 2004 by Poonam

New technology is heading our way. The family made some expenditures in the last two days.

First was an HP PSC 1210 series All-in-1 Printer, Scanner, and Copier.

HP PSC 1210 series All-in-3

You can check the Random Photos in Our Photos gallery to see how the new scanner is working. I will be adding more and more photos as the days go by (most likely after the parents leave  ).

Printing quality is absolutely fantastic and copier works great too. It should be a nice tool to have in the home and I am going to have a fun time using it. Our Epson printer, which still works great, will still be used because we just bought a………..

Second desktop computer!

Dell has been having a sale where you can get a free upgrade to a 15″ flat panel, free shipping, and free memory upgrade. So yesterday bhayia finally said yes and I put in the order.

For < than $500 bucks, I think I got a good deal. I already have Microsoft Office 2000, if I can find or get Office 2003 from a friend then that will be great. The only other thing that I might invest in is Norton AntiVirus (invest bole toh..woh bhi dost se loongi) . We already have a pretty brand new CD-RW, so will just move that from the PC we have now to this new one.

So its really exciting, it should be here next week. Our old PC (the one we are using now) will most likely go downstairs and so we will have two PCs and two laptops all being able to use the Internet. Then when Neeraj and I get married, we will take the old PC to our new home. Sound like a plan? :hyper:

Alvida. Jai Mata Di.

Hell yeah!! It does sound like a plan !! :rotfl::rotfl:

  2. Poonam Says:
man kickstart.. you are more excited then i am. :rotfl:….errr or was that sarcasm? :eyebrow:

  3. Gaurav Says:

    sarcasm 4 sure! :>

If u need McAfee anti virus free for ur whole life then let me know (actually email me), but it only works with Win XP.

  4. Mona Says:

That all in one, guess what … it’s my dream :hyper: woww it’s really cool … I have said to Suhadi that when we get our new home, I gonna buy that one :hyper: It’s like you just have one thing but it can do a lot of things  Actually I am interested with 4 in 1, scanner, printer, fax and copied

I am so happy for you :rotfl: I think it’s like girls stuff … we like making plans what we want to do and what we want to buy right

  5. Monty Says:

Surely does sound like a plan, but i dont see a DVD burner, kyu nahi chahiye kya?

Salla all that under $500 does sound good yaar, but dont you think when Neeraj n you get married, you wouldnt need the old PC, as it might have been outdated, and you would need a sprankling new PC. Actually, i might consider gifting you guys a new PC on your shaadi. :rotfl:

  6. Chetan Says:

The printer looks good :eyebrow:. Does it have photo media card slots? That would just cut it.

  7. Puneet Says:

Few months ago when I was buying printer I liked this one.. but then on second thought and very much thinking decided I am not for it because I already had scanner and had HP printer earlier and the cost per page is expensive in HP printers so I went for EPSON C63 this time its good enough for home use also for copier I think its doesn?t make sense for me to have bought that printer as its economical to use a Xerox as I need in bulk for my college notes lol and get it copied coz the copier uses the same ink from printer

By the way how much did you get the printer for ?here it was available for 4,500 its good printer comparing the print quality very good but it uses ink very much for Best photo quality that makes it less economical considering the cost per page

  8. Gautam Says:

@ AV go for AVG free and its better than NAV. So many people visit this site Gaurav :> & Sushubh :o !!

  9. Poonam Says:
Thanks for the offer Gaurav about the software. Is McAfee better than Norton? I have only used Norton as its on my office laptop. Let me know if you can.

Long time no see Mona. I hope all is well. I think the 4 in 1 is even better but we already have a fax machine, so didn’t need it. But it will be great for you. Let me know which one you get.

You are right. Its us girls that think about what we are going to do with it for the future. Always planning.

You know I asked Bhayia if he wanted a DVD burner Monty and he said no. I had thought ke naya PC leh rahe hain toh DVD -RW wala hi lehte hain but he said we aren’t really going to burn a lot of DVDs, and that’s true. So really didn’t see a use for it. I hear that you can’t fit a whole movie on one DVD anyway (DVD-R has like 76 mins or something like that).

See this is what I think. We are already going to be making major expenditures after we get married, like a home, furniture, appliances, etc. Why invest in a PC so early? Once we get settled we will surely buy a new one. Shuruwaat se tan tan gopal nahi ho sakte. :rotfl: Yes, do gift us a PC on our shaadi; that would really be the best gift.

I don’t think it does have photo media slots Chetan but I will check again. :eyebrow:

You are right Puneet, if you have any one of the other two things (scanner or copier), then its not really worth getting another one. My scanner had broke, so we needed a new one and instead of buying it only, this was the same price ($50). So why not get 3 things in one, instead of just one?

Thanks for commenting Gautam. At first I didn’t understand your comment at all, but now I know what you are saying. What is AVG Free? You have any info on that? :eyebrow: If you do or have a link, then let me know.

Yes Gaurav is now a regular. Sushubh also comes by once in a while.

  10. Gautam Says:

Sorry for being to cryptic [AV= AntiVirus]

AVG Free Edition, Its free and good.

The best [some may find it lil advanced/geeky] i come across and recommend is Kaspersky which really detects virus where my Norton failed many times.

Then there is another i use called NOD32 I like it because its fast and consumes very low cpu resources.

And we have F-Prot and bitdefender they are easy to use and are good.

I would also recommend you a firewall (ZoneAlarm, Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, Sygate personal firewall and kerio personal firewall ) if you are on “always on” internet connection  yes uma geek

  11. Ashwin Says:

That printer is an awesome purchase :D. I also want to buy one..mabbe sometime in the future..because right now no rokda :P

  12. Poonam Says:
Thanks for all of the links and the information Gautam. I really appreciate it. I am not sure if I will go ahead and install an firewall, but we will see. Thanks again!

Thanks Ashwin. Khali ho gayi jeb tumhari?? :???: Lagta hai phir se bharna padega.

  13. Neeraj Says:
Poonu I liked this printer cum scanner cum copier or whatever  but its just fantastic :hyper: and we are going to buy this one or you know four in one you mentioned earlier. I wonder about the technology where it has reached and this is so cheap…just $50 means less than 2500 rupees. I am not aware of what Chetan mentioned. Anyway its simpy fundooooo:rotfl:
  14. Puneet Says:

    hello Neeraj

chetan must have mentioned about media card slot mean the one in digital camera or cellphones which when place in the printer which got slot can directly print photos no need to transfer photos to computer and then print that scenario

  15. Gaurav Says:

I saw a printer with media slot yesterday. It was Canon and was $199.99
