See Puneet you are also not getting my point. Cellphones didn't exist and our parents got thru it..that means that its not necessary. See you are not going to agree with me...ever because you yourself had a cellphone when you were in the 11th standard. The point of saying that our parents didn't have it just means to tell you that its not necessary to have one.

Things don't get banned so easily. Do head of college people spend more time doing their job or watching what new technology is coming out and what they can ban?? Come on yaar...once something that happens that they see that is causing a problem to the education of their students..that's when action is taken. You can't just assume that action will be taken just automatically.

You are going to think that's highly stupid..because u don't understand it....Another thing..before you start criticising someone else's thought..try to read through what they are trying to say. That would be the mature thing to do instead jumping the gun. Your argument is basically irrelevant only because you don't look outside of the box. You cannot think from the students' perception...and that's what you are doing now. You have to look at everyone involved and see it from their eyes as well. Read some of the articles where parents have written in or teachers have written in on what they think should be done with cellphones and school. Then maybe you will get the whole picture.

So take it with a grain of salt.

Poonam ?Did our parents get thru school without using cellphones? Umm?yes. That means that its possible.?

Arrrree I am goona faint now :faint:? poonam you refuse to this topic beyond your realm and its getting rhetorical same preconceived thoughts , when u said one should have unbiased opinion I thoguth over it and said in my earlier comment that well cellphone should be banned if they are a hindrance to Study and IF THEY were they would have been Baned by Now .. the people at the University and college etc the head aren?t fool? to allow if they considered them a hindrance to study

Poonam ?Did our parents get thru school without using cellphones? Umm?yes. That means that its possible.?
Well there weren?t any cell phone in India At least when my parents went to School, cant say what would be thing when would be next 20 years down the line ? so things don?t remain stagnant as they were or you saying they didn?t have so you all shouldn?t also have no offence but that?s highly stupid logic doesn?t make sense if that?s what it is?.

Coz one of the perception what I cam make out from comment posted earlier by many is
?We didn?t have ?.Cell phone when we were in Scholl?? thus other should follow suit they should also refrain?

I mean come on.. I believe the only thing constant in Life is a Change !

Well also I agree with many of the things gaurav mentioned cant retype them here as comment would become too long

hmmm as I know ... it happened in Indonesia too ...
I think nowadays, people take sex as a something usual and normal. They should try and do that just for fun, people don't appreciate sex more like before. I definately don't agree with this thought. Sex is something really important and you can't just try and play around with that.

It's true that it's so sad seeing what happened now with the new generation.

About mobile phone, yeah sometimes I don't understand why those young people need mobile phone. They don't need that .... in here, sometimes I saw kids, 10 years old or maybe younger, have mobile and so proud of it, the worse ... they have the brand new mobile, which just out few days .... When I was in final year high school, my father gave me a mobile phone, and I can say ... I almost never used it ! I always switched off because I don't need that ... it's most useful for working people I guess ....

Sameer: Though the article is old but makes a lot of sense. I think the author is predicting the future in right direction. The next-gen will be definetly influenced by the money and hopefully will take India to higher level. Its upto the nxt-gen to get young and honest politicians and not some extremist old guys who don't think of anything else except themselves.

You cannot learn everything that went on in the whole semester in a week's time. You will not retain anything or hardly anything. That's why i am saying, it is a means of study, but not the best way to study.

Thanks for the article Sameer. I will definitely have a look at it.

Nothing really left to say ... actually, I have no energy left to comment, after reading all these comments.

I would just like to add that, its a package. So along with all the good things which are coming with the Liberalization/growth of Indian economy , there are other not-so-good things which are creeping in.Being mature enough to righteously pick out just the best things is someting which Parents can do and in some cases even the child , but then Parenting is a very heavy topic and I dont think I have given much thought to it yet.

But there is an article that I remeber reading quite some time back in BusinessWeek ... its a pretty old article written way back in '99 and at that time it was the cover story, but it still makes a pretty good read.Very balanced article and compared to many other such articles, this one really stands out.

Check it out if you have time ....

yup...I wasnt sure if it went to automatic moderation or it wasn't even posted. Here it is

Ahem..that was my first point BTW. Which isn?t the best way to study anyway.

Y not? one can have fun during whole year/sem and can sutdy with a recharged brain at the end. But it has been observed that girls generally don't use this method

We just studied at the end of the year/semester and I believe most of the kids do that in India

I know this happens. We all know this happens. But I can tell you this much the reason this happens is because you don't pay attention during the lectures so you have to learn everything at the end. Ahem..that was my first point btw. Which isn't the best way to study anyway.

Tons of people sleep in class, I know that too, its better that you don't go to class if you are going to sleep anyway. Yes there are reasons you are suppose to read and learn American History, Women Studies, etc. There is a reason for everything, ask your professor. There are many people just like you who have asked that question which is exactly what my other point was -- parents/teachers need to educate their children/students to why they are learning what they learning.

The education system and cellphones are all related to my post. Don't worry, we haven't diverted.
