Ever Been Locked Out…On Your Birthday??

Posted on December 16th, 2004 by Poonam

The birthday is over. Thanks to everyone that remembered and wished me on my special day. The day started at 12.20 am when Neeraj called to wish me on the phone. Then by early morning, I had received calls from Jugal Chacha, my friend Vishal, and a surprise call from Neeraj’s friend Mahesh in Germany. Then soon after the calls from all other relatives came throughout the day.

Around noon, Suraj came home for lunch, and that’s when I opened my gift. A beautiful sweater and some lovely fragrance cream (No, Suraj didn’t pick it out, Mumma had it all ready for him before she had left for India :rotfl: ).

The night’s plan was to go out to dinner with Prasad and Vishal. Once they both had reached our home, it was decided that Prasad would leave right from the restaurant. So then Vishal insisted that he shall take his car as well. I sat with Prasad as Suraj sat with Vishal and we were on our way to La Fiesta restaurant for some delicious Mexican dishes.

The food was great, and the birthday girl (me  ) ate for free! On your birthday, you eat for free at this restaurant (and its soo worth it!).

Nearby is a grocery store where Suraj needed to pick up some dessert or sweet for a potluck lunch they were having in the office today. Ran into my good friends, Jennie and Betsy, and had a nice talk with them. As we reached the parking lot, Suraj is looking for his house key and asks if I had it. I said, “Yaar, how could I have it??? :banghead: You were the one who closed the garage at the end, I thought you must have gone back to get the garage opener. ”

So four people and no way to get into our house. Mind you that this was one of the coldest days in the season as well, so it was difficult to even stand outside. The guys looked around the house to see what they can do to get it open, as I was attending phone calls from relatives. The decision was made, breaking a window is not a good idea, we will call the police who will call a locksmith.

Called the police and cop car shows up about 10 mins later. He asked what the problem was and Suraj got in the car as the cop called up locksmiths. The first one he called said that he would charge $60 and would be here in 5 mins. Suraj agreed and soon the cop car left, and he came back and sat with us in Prasad’s car. 10 mins later the locksmith shows up.

Prasad immediately recognizes this locksmith as he had helped open a door that was adjacent to my father’s business. 10 mins later we were in the house. As the locksmith was writing out the check, he had to look at Suraj’s driver’s license for his information. Just when he was writing the name he says, “Are you Subhash’s son?” He knew Papa as he had helped with locks @ my Papa’s business. Small world.

Finally in the house, finished all pending relative calls, called Neeraj, and then lastly got the call from my parents. An eventful birthday that will never be forgotton! Oh ya, we will never forget our house keys either! :rotfl:

Alvida. Jai Mata Di.

Indeed dramatic end of the day {aka filmi} :P

where is this La Fiesta restaurant? If there was a resturant like this near my place then I’d have my birthday party everyday :D (n it’ll b only me attending it)

Is ur city = Morton Grove? I am asking coz I know someone and I found out today that shes living there. I know ur city is Morton but not sure if they r same.

  8. Poonam Says:
Ya it was quite filmy Gaurav.

Morton Grove and where I live Morton (just Morton  ) are two different places. Morton Grove is a suburb of Chicago and the city of Morton (Pumpkin Capital of the World) is located in central IL.

La Fiesta Restaurant is located in Morton, and it has authentic Mexican food. The best part is the variety as they have 8 different vegetarian dishes. Food is great and service is great too.

bas yehi problem hai USA mein…..theres no one city which has a unique name, I get too confused. Moreover Amsterdam, London and Australia (may b, not sure) are all American cities names :| And every other city has same street names :((

Its good that a resturant has 8 Vegi dishes, otherwise yahan to mushkil se ek milti hai (dat too weird salad.)

  10. Poonam Says:
So true Gaurav. Sab cities main same name cities hai hi. How many Bloomingtons we have?? Almost one in every state! Yup London, Amsterdam, Paris, Australia, etc…the list goes on and on.

The dishes are great where they give you three different things to try. One dish might be a bean burrito, tostaguac (tostada with guacamole), and one enchilada. Another might be enchilada, chalupa, and rice & beans. So you get three different things to try and see what you like. Its sooo yummy. :faint:
