Current Tune: Saare Jahan se Aacha

NP.com would like to wish all deshwaasiyon a very Happy Republic Day. Neeraj and I hope that the new year for India brings only success and prosperity to the country as well as to its people. India has potential to be a super power, maybe not today or tomorrow, but definitely in the future. Its necessary to start building a strong foundation today in order to achieve that goal later.
Congrats to Shah Rukh Khan for receiving the Padmashri Award.
Interesting read. Check this article out about how Delhites wish Republic Day was every day in Delhi. It discusses how police are not noticeable on any other day but on Republic Day, you will see them on every traffic light. If the traffic light goes out, you will see in minutes police taking over and electricians fixing the light. Does that happen every day in Delhi? Not a chance. Should it? Maybe not at that extent, but it should be comparable.
Goes back to the saying that Mumbai is better, and will stay better, than Delhi. Who said that? I did.
Alvida. Jai Mata Di.
[...] [...]
Happy Republic day 2 everybody.
Actually I like Delhi :D
Its cool. But will have to agree that Delhi’s nite life is nthn as compared to Mumbai. Keeping this in mind Delhi’s govt. is trying to get the shops open late at night till 10 or 12 in summers. That’ll be really good.
Happy R-Day to you as well!!
Debating on Delhi Vs Mumbai, 100 out of 100 times, I will say Delhi rocks!! Can list down ‘n’ number of things in which Delhi is way way better than Mumbai. I have seen both cities inside-out and can provide good reasons for my liking. But, really don’t want to start this fight yet again :D
Rem’ber the fight i had with Monty on his blog about this very issue? :P
Happy Republic Day
hmm
Delhi and Mumbai ?
I went to Delhi and I like the place … although my favourite is still Shimla I guess … the place is really quiet and has very beautiful view.
I think if you are looking for entertainment, Mumbai is the place. Delhi is like in the middle, not too many entertainments but busy city too.
I also vote for “Delhi”. ;) Its pretty clean, and traffic is quite organized.
Have nt been to Mumbai actually, but I dont think it will be better than Delhi. ;)
It seems that there are too many Delhites blogging.
Until Mona and Govind visit Mumbai, you can’t really say that Delhi is better than Mumbai.
Sorry guys, your vote for now doesn’t count.
Mumbai is 100x cleaner than Delhi! Did you see anybody writing an article like the one above for Mumbai during the Mumbai Marathon? Delhi has too many problems, and I wish, seriously I do
, that Delhi would have been better than Mumbai being the capital of the nation, but Mumbai has better traffic (less horn), better services (a.k.a trains), and better lifestyle.
Anyway, I just said that to get a stir started, and now we don’t have to argue about it.
They are both cities within our wonderful desh, and we are proud to have both.
But more proud to have Mumbai.
Mr. Delhite himself hasn’t spoken yet (a.k.a Ankur). Can’t wait to see what he says.
Bas itna kahongi, East or West, Mumbai is the best.
Manpreet, tusi saath toh argue shargue karna hi nahi hai.
I haven’t been to Shimla Mona, but it seems like a beautiful place.
I bet there is no place on the Earth like Shimla.
How is Delhi clean and well organized traffic Govind?
If you want to see clean and well organized traffic, you must see Mumbai. Delhi, people drive like maniacs, more maniacal than in Mumbai. The city of Delhi is only clean when the president/prime minister of another country is coming, if its Republic Day, or if its Independence Day.
I definitely think that you should visit Mumbai, Delhi ko toh bhul jaaogai.
Waiting for my opinion
Right Poonam
Ofcourse Delhi is good
Because majority is voting for Delhi… that’s why no counting of votes in this democratic society.
Bahut na-insafi hai
Poonam how Mumbai has better service…
Delhi’s Metro train is ofcourse better than Mumbai Local Trains.
Poonamji when you havn’t visited Delhi in recent times… how are you commenting about traffic sense.
All people drive so sensibly like me
See it here
In the above pics, you can also see how clean are the roads
Delhi has also ofcourse less use of horns, because otherwise fine is imposed
Waiting for Polling results. Declare it soon else counts for Delhi will keep on increasing
LOL ;)
Ok, first listing down Mumbai’s cons
- Place is filthy.. just check out the famour Juhu beach.. its full of garbage.. Have a look at dadar.. check out bandstand… its such a smelly place.. less i say about other place, better it will be.
- Traffic sense.. lol.. anybody can drive can follow lane driving if their is only one lane :P Mumbai roads are so narrow… check out delhi roads now..delhi has changed a lot in last 5 years.. you will know what world class roads mean!!
- Trains… Heard about Delhi Metro poonam?
- Lifestyle.. When u talk about lifestyle, do you mean pubs and discs or the fashionable peepz strolling down the linking road…? This discussion depends on your answer..
- Food… LOL… Delhi is also the food capital of India.. Plenty of good restaurants/dhabas… simply awesome..
- Mumbai airport was recently acknowledged as the worst airport in Asia.. its another matter that Delhi was not too far behind either :p
Delhi cons
- Security is an issue.. but it has been blown out of proportion by the media.. Even mumbai is unsafe… check out the beaches at night.. you will see plenty of drug peddlers around
- People say delhites are rude.. that’s ‘coz most of the people living their are punjabi’s.. and punjabi’s are little aggressive.. that’s all.. maybe thats because.. punjabi’s are so successful in business :P
Overall its Delhi which Rocks.. Mumbai was the best city in India maybe 10 yrs back.. but now.. that spot has been taken up by saadi dilli :D
Give me a break Ankur and Manpreet.
You can turn green but you are still not convincing me that Delhi is better. I am just waiting for the perfect judge to come in and comment (that would be Neeraj
). He has lived in both places and would be the perfect non-bias judge. Manpreet, you are soooo bias towards Delhi just becuz u are from there.
True Ankur that I have not been to Delhi..par mere parents abhi hoke aaye hain..and their thoughts would have been very similar to mine so I am using that as a basis of my support and argument.
I hope that is okay with you Lawyer saab?
Ab meri baat suno..
Delhi ka metro?? Abhi tak poora banna bhi nahi hai and can’t be compared to the speed and capacity of Mumbai’s local trains. Pata hai ab Mumbai main every minute train aati hai…the metro cannot get better than that.
Restaurants? With places like Koyla, Golden Gate, Shiv Sagar, Sukh Sagar, Chowpatty, Samrat, Gaylord, New Yorkers, etc…Mumbai beats Delhi by a landslide. What you believe you can find in Delhi, you can find in Mumbai…but much much better.
Traffic? To tell you the truth, traffic all over India is not organized..and its becuz no one really drives correctly and instead spend too much time overtaking each other. Well, that’s just another story but in recent Times of India news, Delhi has one of the worst traffic problems in all of India. Accident rates are highest in Delhi because people there don’t care about each other or the safety of others..they care about themselves being safe only. Whoooo….that was a heartbreaker for all of you Delhites.
(Don’t take offense please this is in all good fun
).
I hope this is true in Delhi, but just this time in Mumbai I noticed that everyone, including taxi wallahs and rickshaws were signaling when turning, as well as using their fog lights, and less horn. Let’s face it, Mumbai has less horn than Delhi…noise pollution has always remained a problem in Delhi and still is.
Do you know that you can’t travel at night in Delhi?? Especially ladies?? My god..the auto rickshaw might do ANYTHING with you. Where has I have been out till midnight in Mumbai and have been able to take a taxi with just my girl cousins and have been fine. Delhi main yeh main kabhi nahi kar sakhu…even in the nice places like near Ashok Vihar or coming from the train station.
Have you seen Nariam Point Manpreet?? Next time you go to Mumbai..you check out the most crowded place…Nariam Point..and you see how clean it is…it is spotless man…and its absolutely amazing…near there you will find a HUGE multiplex (CR2) that houses restaurants and shops..but you will find no dirt..no scum..and no filth….anywhere near the place…Now being sea-face that’s pretty amazing….there is no place in Delhi that is as clean as that..and that’s what that article was saying that I have given the link to. Another place to see is Hiranandani in Powai…so spotless..so clean…you will not even feel that you are in Mumbai but like you are abroad..its THAT clean… Delhi is not even comparable to that place.
This argument could continue..FOREVER.. but tere liye hamesha Delhi pyaara rahega aur mere liye Mumbai..isliya bahas karne se koi fayda nahi hai.. Isliya apna desh Bharat Mahaan..
Ab bahas chalu ho gayi hai to.. how can a pucca delhite like me stay quiet..
About cleaniness.. i am talking about mumbai as a whole.. not one two locations.. so ur justifcation is faulty :p
about food.. personally i hate all these sukh sagars and shiv sagars.. since i haven’t seen delhi of late, your justification for food is also invalid :P
Ok. chalo.. maan liya ki delhi mein noise pollution hai.. but mumbai mein to baaki sab polluted hai.. air, soil, minds (kidding) :P
Yes, i am biased towards delhi.. and so are you towards mumbai… but i’m saying the right thing.. Delhi Rocks!! Mumbai shocks!! :P rhyming sahi hai na ?
Poonam! such a big post for Mumbai
Really no point in arguing. Everybody has different opinion
But still voting can be there
Ankur, in that way Delhi will win hands down
Hey the city that never sleeps thats BOMBAY !
this is the city where ppl come with dreamz and tons are able to live that dream…
didnt Shahrukh Khan leave delhi n come to bombay o well if he hadnt he would be still a non entity surviving in delhi…
the crime rate in delhi is as high as the ego of ppl there :P
take a walk on monday nite wearing the most exp jewelery u hv n dare neone even touch u ! every monday tens of thosands walk fr all over bombay to siddhivinayak n in all these years hvnt heard of even one incidence of robbery or nething else…
the buses in delhi are pathetic… i hv frnds who hv told me that girls are openly molested in buses n one can do nothing ab it !
try that in bombay n u will find urself beaten black n blue !
about the airport… i been going to the airport since a few years never found it dirty atleast… also if neone would hv recently gone would hv known the wonderful changes…
Bombay boasts one of the best transport system in the world ! mayb not the fanciest one…
Bombay is considered as the Financial capital of India!
Bombay only city where u will find ppl from all over india staying in harmony!
Bombay has an amazing coastline ! and the beaches are not as bad as someone pointed out!
The Bachans, Shahs, Ambanis, Ruias, Hindujas and 1000s more all prefer Bombay as their HOME!
We have the famous “Dabbawallas” whom certain prestigious univs want to do a case study on…
There are 100000 of ppl at this moment who would be thinking of coming to bombay and make a living…
I love Bombay!
Hey Poonam, Happy Republic Day!
I love Delhi. There’s just no more to say.
lol @ the “healthy discussion”
Manpreet said that ppl. consider delhites as rude, coz there are lot of punjabis. I think delhi’s atleast 50% population can speak punjabi and abt. 75 – 80 can understand. Its the second lang. Yea, punjabis are aggressive, but I think its in the punjabi culture. Its the way how punjabi or hindi with a punjabi accent spoken. To others it seems like rude but the person speaking is talking polietly.
The good thing I find about India (Punjabis in general) is they don’t care too much about small things. When I was studying in Punjab, I used to come home every other weekend or so and on the way, the strangers offer you food (families eating, not drugged food :p ) or if they bought tea, they would ask if u want it. I really miss this apnapan here.
I don’t know what changes have happened in n arnd. delhi, but one of my cousins who visited India recently told me that the flyovers have changed the shape of delhi. When I was in India, they were being built. While going from faridabad to IGA, it hardly takes any time now.
After CNG busses n Autos, I believe polution situation is much better (one of our family friends told us that)
Kunal> didnt Shahrukh Khan leave delhi n come to bombay o well if he hadnt he would be still a non entity surviving in delhi?
Me> He went to mumbai.. coz bollywood is based there.. he didn’t opted bombay for the city.. but because.. he got work there!!
Kunal> the buses in delhi are pathetic? i hv frnds who hv told me that girls are openly molested in buses n one can do nothing ab it !
try that in bombay n u will find urself beaten black n blue !
Me> Ok.. go to delhi.. try doing it in DTC buses.. u will come to know the reality.. even there u wud be beaten black and blue!! take my words for it!!
Kunal> about the airport? i been going to the airport since a few years never found it dirty atleast? also if neone would hv recently gone would hv known the wonderful changes?
Me> Check out this http://www.airlinequality.com/Airports/Airport_forum/bom.htm. Do i need to add more?
Kunal>Bombay boasts one of the best transport system in the world ! mayb not the fanciest one?
Me>First it has to be the best in India.. World to bahut door hai my dear friend!! Over 30% of delhi’s budget now is spent on transportation. Just visit delhi once.. u will know the difference.. by sitting in front of PC from about 1000 kms away, you really are in no position to comment :)
Kunal>Bombay is considered as the Financial capital of India!
Me>About 6 months back, there was an article in ToI, that NCR has more number of millionaires than Bombay. Also, check out the facts in the Economic Survey 2001-2002. The per capita income of a delhite is more than per capita income of a Mumbaikar. If u have ambanis, stock exchange and bollywood, it doesn’t means you become financial capital of India… The city which has more money flowing is the financial capital. Things have changed drastically over the last few years. You have to come to Delhi.. and see for yourself!!
Kunal>Bombay only city where u will find ppl from all over india staying in harmony!
Me> Harmony.. !! Rem’ber the riots in 1992?
Kunal>Bombay has an amazing coastline ! and the beaches are not as bad as someone pointed out!
Me> They are not good either…!!
Kunal>The Bachans, Shahs, Ambanis, Ruias, Hindujas and 1000s more all prefer Bombay as their HOME!
Me> The likes of Jindals, Gandhis, Rohit Bals, Jatin Kochars, JJ Vallayas, Nandas prefer Delhi as their HOME! :)
Kunal> There are 100000 of ppl at this moment who would be thinking of coming to bombay and make a living?
Me> So is the case for Delhi…
Kunal> I love Bombay!
Me> I love Delhi!
As Gaurav mentioned that CNG has brought pollution levels down in Delhi. Mumbai has still to follow this thing. Delhi did it about 5 yrs back!!!
For more info read this article on Rediff:
http://in.rediff.com/money/2005/jan/22spec.htm
PS: Yes, I love Delhi a lot!!
PSS: I am free today. Not much work @ office!!
So many comments… it will take poonam days to read them
Anyway, while Poonam is asleep lets take the advantage and count the votes…
Begin
Vote count…
For Delhi…
1 Manpreet
2 Ankur
3 Gaurav
4 Aaina
5 Govind
For Mumbai
1 Poonam
2 Kunal
Neutral
1 Mona
End;
Good work Ankur!!!
According to junta here, Delhi rules
Delhi is nice. But its quite warm there. I was there arnd end of september. And yes, CNG helped bringin down the pollution. Anyways, Delhi is still better than Mumbai. :)
First of all, I wish Kunal and Manpreet had this conversation when he had met in Mumbai..because of two reasons: a) i wanted to see the discussion in person
and b) it would have been 3 against one…
which comes to my next point that I have to point out because of chalak Mr. Raheja…the voting.
Mere hisaab se aapka voting sahi nahi hai…i need a recount.
Delhi:
Ankur, Manpreet, Aaina, and Gaurav. seems to me that all are Delhites so really none of the votes should count because they are all bias
Mumbai:
Kunal, Poonam, and Neeraj now here we only have 1 Mumbaite and that’s Kunal. I am in outsider and so is Neeraj
Neutral:
Mona and Govind must have visited both places to play a part in the voting
So the actual votes are if you take out the biasness are…
Delhi = ZERO
Mumbai = Neeraj and Poonam
Neutral = Mona and Govind
Whooooo Mumbai wins over a landslide!!
Now ending conclusion on this…I would never send my children to schools in Delhi..such as D-P-S..have you heard of any bigger scandal in schools recently than that?? And guess what? It happened in Delhi!!!!
Sorry my friends..but Delhites are too modern for their own good…and if kids are like this already..then I am sorry…I would take them to live in a GAON but never in Delhi.
If the next time the Delhites are going to say that this happens in Mumbai…then pray tell, why isn’t it in the news like the DPS scandal?
That’s not one isolated incident either…IIT Delhi girls are well known to take up jobs as call girls… Delhi shaher hi aaisa hai..kya kare..
Poonam… your voting is flawed!!
most of ur relatives stay in bombay.. thats why u are biased towards it.. neeraj hasn’t seen delhi much.. so he’s also a neutral person..
That means..
Delhi – zero
Mumbai – zero
Neutral – three
:P
Delhi & Mumbai (hate to say this but..) both rock !! Khush!!
Waise.. talking about MMS fiasco… you just visit your famous Bandstand.. wahan jo hota hai.. that’s not Indian tradition either!! Hope you got my point!! :)
Waise Manpreete dost…Neeraj Delhi main rahe chuka hai..kaash uske paas itna kaam nahi hota aaj office main toh uski awaaz bhi sunni jaati….
btw – i have do masis in Delhi as well…i have equal amount of relatives in both places..
still voting stands at…
Delhi = zero
Mumbai = two
Neutral = two
hee hee hee…aur btw jo newspaper main chappi jaati hai dost uski baat ki jaa rahi thi..Bandstand main jo hota hai woh sahi nahi hai…par atleast woh newspaper main chappi nahi jaati..Harvard ka graduate jail nahi jaata hai…getting my point?
Come on yaar. Yeh kaise!!. I want my vote to be considered. Yeh naa insaafi hai, neutral karaar dena. ;)
I had been to Mumbai. But have nt seen the city much. :)
But what ever I saw, that was enough for me to judge Delhi is better. ;)
lol @ Govind.
Poonam – neither me nor Aaina is from Delhi. We are from NCR, Faridabad to be specific.
Kunal – Yes, Shahrukh did move to Mumbai, but so did Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Govinda, Vijayanti Mala, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Dharmendra, Hema Malini….& many more during campaigning for the similar reasons. Perhaps Shahrukh would move back soon :P
I have traveled in Delhi busses (DTC as well as Private) for almost about 4 years. I never saw case where a girl was moltested or smthng. the max was staring.
So as Govind clearly votes for Delhi
Delhi: 3
Mumbai: 2
Neutral: 1
Yeh kya ho raha hai
Poonam! I think you must start a new post, so that never-ending argument ends here… and issue get diverted
Well here is my vote
for Mumbai(now I am bit doubtful after listening so many things abt. Delhi but earlier I was pretty sure about it since I have seen Delhi which was in 2003 and I had so many bad experiences with traveling, roaming around the city, etc..).
Of course Delhi is the capital of India, whenever anything comes in developement or improvment, it is implemented there first. After the announcement of the CommonWealth Games to be held in Delhi, there will be a lot more changes in terms of making that city wonderful. But what I have seen in Mumbai is the views changes very frequently about the city from person to person, which is due to people belonging to a various ranges of class.
Mumbai, from my point of view, is much better than Delhi. I found my life much well settled in Mumbai faster than Delhi. I was in Delhi for 2-3 months in Feb or March ’03. It was so horrible for me that I had to think a lot while traveling in the city because of careless driving of bus drivers, rude or too much smart people, traffic and so on. Even that time I did not have much idea about Mumbai but I was sure that Delhi is not a good city for living at all.
When I came to Mumbai, I have never had that many problems that I had in Delhi within a short period of time. My daily life in Mumbai is really cool. I don’t know what to say more about Mumbai that shows its better than Delhi, but I have seen majority of Mumbai and Delhi. If I compare both of them, Delhi is nowhere better than Mumbai in any category except which is that my home is closer to Delhi, so that’s the only advantage for me.
After reading all posts from all of you, one thing is for sure that I am going to do is to visit Delhi in the near future.
But till then Mumbai remains my first choice.
TOI also has one survery or some kind of statistics(In Dec. 04) about which city is good in various categories. It was–
Most Dirtiest City
Calcutta
Delhi
Mumbai
Bangalore
Most Polluted City
Calcutta
Delhi
Mumbai
Bangalore
Most Crimes happening in City
Delhi
Calcutta
Mumbai
Bangalore
One more about the best city to live
Bangalore
Mumbai
Delhi
Calcutta
so I feel kee Delhi itna change nahi hua hoga last 1 year and 8 months mai:smile:
lol
I won’t go with these polls coz I know for sure that India’s most polluted city is Ludhiana and prolly the dirtiest 2.
Neeraj, you find your 2 mnths in Delhi and your time in Mumbai different coz may be u were in different frames of mind?
I mean like you are working now but prolly that time u were not? (I dunno, but its just a thought.)
Poonam – I am a proud Dipsite :> These kind of things happen, it can happen anywhere delhi, mumbai, patna…etc (for more info on that, read my post “changing face of the society” + its comments.)
I think DPS RKP is the coolest school, apart from whatever happened.
The way I see it Gaurav, we all have different views about what is good and what is bad. I mentioned this maybe in my first two comments on this post that haan..mere ko mumbai pyaari lag sakti hai..aur tumhe delhi…par the argument continued anyway…
i agree that what happened in delhi with DPS could happen in other places of india, and it already might occur..BUT its important to understand that was an incident that was brought out to the public…so it becomes a national issue…You began to think that maybe that place isn’t suitable for your children…or you don’t want in that situation..those are considerable thoughts that might enter in a parent’s mind…and also where i stand on the issue…
As my copyrighted saying goes.. soch soch ki baat hai
I think the award for most well written comment goes to Neeraj…of course I am the one giving away the award and the prize so no one else gets to vote.
Chahe woh kamm likhta hai..par jab likhta hai toh chappad paar ke likhta hai!
Nice one my love
mumbai it is. reason: i like the food there… ;)
Well didn?t read all the comment ? but then I can only say might be I am wrong coz I never lived in delhi?. (Would not prefer to too also?live be it any other city in world or delhi.. there nothing like ? compared to mumbai
) Because its not just a city it more the that ) my views about delhi is based upon visit and views from friend who lived there
Little Extreme views well I believe comparing mumbai to Delhi or another city would be demeaning mumbai
Because mumbai is not just a city for me it means more then that mumbai = spirit
And this not just isolated in selected few you can see the spirits of mumbai be it someone in his office in nariman point or be it a person selling newspaper on road or a women traveling 2 hrs to reach work place? after the struggle in the congested local train but the smile.
On their face at the end of the day?.. and their spirit and way of looking towards life you wont find it in any other city you would find the spirit of mumbai in be it someone living in malabar hill or pali hill or some slums…
Mumbai is City with Soul
LOL
Arrey.. this debate is going one way. Delhi.. Delhi.. Delhi.. has won!! :P
ToI itself is biased, because the first edition of ToI came from Mumbai (if i am not mistaken). Therefore Neeraj’s ToI survey isn’t valid here!!
Anyway.. waise.. we were debating over an issue which isn’t an issue at all at first place… The best city of India will always be Delhi!! Mumbaikars can just post whatever, they just can’t change what is true! :P
Puneet! Really you are very late.
Poll ended on 28 Jan…
You see, once polling ends, you can’t go to polling booth and say I forgot to vote
So sorry, now yours and Abhishek’s vote won’t be counted. Right Poonam
BTW, nobody discussed about Munna Bhais of mumbai…
Manpreete mere ko toh lagta hai ke tumhe chashme ki jarurat hai
aur if tumhare contacts/chashma already ho..toh apne aankhein check kar waao
Tum kehte ho ke delhi delhi delhi ho raha hai..jab ki Abhishek and Puneet…the last two commenters prior to your comment had said Mumbai.
So that is the final votes.. final matlab.. F-I-N-A-L
Jyaada koi shyaana bana toh main comments band kar dongi..
BlackMail
poonam after mumbai gets one more vote then close the comment
it would be 6-5.. then the score hehehe
Your verdict and puneet’s last comments shows mumbai wale shyaane hote hain.. and delhi wale sharif!!
Manpreet great conclusion
Hi All,
i would just like to bring 1 thing to notice which i think has not been mentioned before(may be) that DELHI PEPOLE HAVE OSTENTATIOUS BEHAVIOR means they r big show-off even if they don’t have nothin which i have never seen in bombay pepole, they r down to earth and mind their own business.
hats off to them.
and GIRL’S SAFETY is one of the major concern which can never be ignored as CITY will be too dull without the girls out there.
and yes most of u will be surprised to know that i’m a Delhiite myself. Been born and bought in delhi but still i find bombay better than delhi.
Good points Jolly and thanks for coming to our website.
Dekha junta, finally ek Delhites ne sahi nazar se, sahi baatein batayi Delhi ke baare main!! Three cheers for Mumbai!
