Getting Ready to Send the Papers…

Posted on January 31st, 2005 by Poonam

Today is the last day of January. The first month of the new year is over, and I am excited. :hyper: I just want the time to pass as soon as possible.

The weekend was spent doing random things around the home, but mostly getting stuff together for Neeraj’s visa papers. I am going to send it off tomorrow as it is going to take some major time before he gets his interview in India. We are applying for the K-1 Fiancee Visa.

There will be a quite discussion throughout the next six months about what is happening and checklists to what needs to be send to each other in regards with the visa processing.

The first checklist begins below. I want to make sure that I have all the documents that need to be sent tomorrow with the petition.

1. Cover Letter & paperclipped money order for $165
2. I-129F Visa Application form (2 pages)
3. G-325A Biographic Form (8 pages - 4 pages for each of us)
4. 2×2 inches photo of Neeraj (attached to the G-325A form or in a plastic bag)
5. 2×2 inches photo of Poonam (attached to the G-325A form or in a plastic bag)
6. Letter of Intent to Marry - Poonam signed and dated
7. Letter of Intent to Marry - Neeraj signed and dated
8. Explanation of Part B, Question 19 in I-129F regarding how we met
9. Photocopies of Poonam’s passport (all pages)
10. FC-029 Form (signed by Poonam)
11. Evidence of Relationship Summary
12. Remit2India printouts
13. Photocopy of Poonam’s boarding pass to India - Dec. 2004
14. Poonam’s Itinerary for the trip
15. Poonam’s phone bills and emails

This list might continue as the night goes on… I sent on a few of the things to my cousin, Gudiya, who is gone through the whole process, to make sure that I have filled it out properly. Let’s hope for the best feedback from her.

Its great that u have started the process

Wow, it just takes 30-120 days, thats so cool.

I know that this is for a US citizen, do you happen to know if there is something like for a permanent resident?

I googled it and it says that it takes bout 5 yrs

  4. Manpreet Says:

    Good going Poonam/Neeraj!! ATB!! :)

  5. Mona Says:

wish you the best always
I hate paper works :grumpy: but we have no choice, don’t we ?
The more evidence that you gave, it’s better … I even send pictures of me and Suhadi when we had holidays together. All the boarding pass and tickets when we went somewhere together, and also copy of all cards that we gave to each others

  6. Aaina Says:

Whoa…looks like it’s going to take a while. Well, good luck with that.

  8. Poonam Says:
Yep Govind, starting ASAP because it will take a loooongg time. Atleast six months or more before Neeraj even reaches USA.

Thanks Ankur, we need it.

Um Gaurav, I think you are confused. Or I am confused. :eyebrow: Where did you get the 30-120 days? This is the first leg of the processing. I start the petition here and then it will take atleast four months for it to go thru processing, then Neeraj will get info and an interview date two months later. Then he goes to the interview at the consulate in Mumbai. If he passes, he will get the visa that day or the next day. Then he has six months to travel to the US. Once he reaches the US, we have 90 days to get married (we are doing a court marriage of course because we want the traditional wedding in India). Anyway, the WHOLE process will take somewhere between 6-8 months.

There is a process for a permanent resident, you go thru the similar process if you want to do a fiancee visa. How long it takes is dependent on where you are located (like you are in CA so you would send it to the CA Service Center where I am in located in IL so I am sending it to the Nebraska Service Center). Anyway, I don’t think it should take five years. But you have to see which is faster, K-1 (fiancee) or K-3 (spouse).

Thanks Manpreet! We need it.

Oh Mona! The paperwork is horrendous!! I have been doing paperwork for three days! They are so picky about so many things. Things have to be so exact its crazy! How’s the Australia processing going for you? Yup, the more evidence you have the better. I have heard that as well. Thanks for your good wishes! Wish the very same to you!

Thanks Aaina. It will take some time so its good to get started ASAP.

Hey Kunal, nice to your comment after a while. Neeraj told me that you called today. I am so sorry that I haven’t had a chance to email. I am going to send the papers in today and then I will email you after that.

  9. Gaurav Says:

This says 30 -120 days. I understand that after that GC might take longer time.

K-1 and K-3 are only for US citizens and not GC holders.

For GC holders, there is some other procedure, which may take upto 5 years. I read this somewhere online on googling (can’t find it now)

What do u mean by where u r located? Like if CA has lotsa application, then it will take longer? If thats the case then I shud go to Alaska :D (BTW last time I checked Alaska had 50k Indians :O )

  10. Poonam Says:
Yup exactly..like i am in IL..and we sent it to Nebraska Service Center..and for spouse visa it takes over two years..and for fiancee visa it takes approx. six months…for those who live in New Jersey..fiancee visa takes about three months or even less than that.. so it depends really where u live..don’t know much abt. CA but I know Nebraska is one of the slowest service centers.
  11. Abhishek Says:

    Poonam?s phone bills and emails
you have to give your emails :?: where’s privacy?!

  12. Poonam Says:
There is no privacy in this Abhishek. The more evidence you provide the better you are off. So emails, letters, even envelopes of the letters you can show as evidence of your relationship.
