Filmfare - Sweet & Smooth
What a fun filled movie weekend. On Saturday it was the Filmfare Awards and then Sunday was the Oscars. I enjoyed, of course , the Filmfare Awards more than the Oscars.
After last year’s disastrous show that we called the Filmfare Awards, I didn’t have high expectations for this year. Praying that Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan are not hosting like last year and making the show almost unbearable to watch would be an understatement.
Last year, my favorite awards show was the Samsung. I thought it was quite fair with their judging compared to the Zee Cine and the Filmfare Awards (I don’t get the results to the Star Plus Award show so can’t really count that
).
Filmfare this year was not bad at all. The host, Saif Ali Khan, was funny and bearable as well as it was nice to have Sonali Bendre and Farida Jalal there to keep in check.
I think it went much more smoother other than the times when the sponsor’s CEO or whatever he was would come to the stage to present an award because he was more clueless than a man trying to find his glasses.
Best part of the show was when my daer Abhishek Bachchan got the award for Best Supporting Actor for Yuva, and he brought his father, Amitabh Bachchan, on the stage. Abhishek went on to say that he was honored to get the award but he would not be able to accept it because there is no performance that could be better than his father’s, who was also nominated in the same category. So then he gave the trophy to Amitabh, hugged him, and moved to go off the stage. Amitabh then went to the microphone and said that as family traditions are, what belongs to the father is then given to the son.
How sweet. How beautiful.
Made me almost cry.
It was nice to see Rani Mukherjee get awards for Best Actress for Hum Tum as well as Best Supporting Actress for Veer Zaara.
I think she really deserved it after being knoocked out last year by Preity Zinta. She looked fabulous as well; very simple and quite thin. Shah Rukh Khan, of course, took Best Actor for Veer Zaara and also got the Power Award. Hmm, I am not sure if he should have gotten that one but then again he did produce three great movies this year (Veer Zaara, Swades, and Main Hoon Na) so maybe there was no one else that was better than him.
Best performance was definitely the last one with Shah Rukh Khan and the leading ladies of yesteryear Bollywood. It was great how they incorporated Vjyantimala, Sharmila Tagore, Zeenat Aman, Jaya Prada, Rekha, Kajol (my fav.
), Rani Mukherjee, and Preity Zinta with their well-known songs in the performance. The songs they chose were great and seeing all the actresses, especially the elder ones, dancing and enjoying themselves was fantastic.
So that’s that. Anu Malik was a disappointment, really weren’t there a better album than Main Hoon Na last year?
Don’t know if he really should have gotten it. Veer Zaara I think was better. Kunal Kohli for Best Director for Hum Tum was also well deserved.
All in all it was a better show than expected. Let’s see what happens with the other award shows this year.
Alvida. Jai Mata Di.

I agree with you that Veer Zaara should win the best song as well instead of Main Hoon Na. I think Veer Zaara songs are much better
Really glad that Veer Zaara won the award as best movie. But I still think that this movie will be better if SRK played with Kajol
I heard Preity Zinta was so confident that she would win the award, is it true ? When Rani won the award, she looked very upset ? I just read in the article
SRK is really cool, produced very good movies last year but I don’t understand why every year he won awards. Even if he was not in the best actor category, they would try to create a new category so that SRK won something ?
But SRK is really a good actor and I like him

Abhishek was great.
I know how much you like him too, one of the many things that we have in common.
I haven’t seen him in Yuva but heard it was quite good, but the gesture he made to his father showed what a great human being he is also.
Yes, Preity looked disappointed, but I have heard that Preity and Rani are quite good friends so I think she would have been happy for Rani as well. Especially from last year when Preity got the award while Rani also had a good movie.
But great thoughts Mona as always!

Filmfare awards was cool
Some musical performances were very good… by Sharukh Khan, Sonu Nigam, etc
Congrats to Abhishesk Bachchan

And also to his fans

Poonam…SRK got the best actor award for Swades & not for Veer Zaara:no:
February 28th, 2005 at 11:04 pm
Ya, the filmfare awards were great. It seemed to be a little unorganized…especially couple of instances when the Swarup Group’s CEO (??) came up and started announcing:irked::rotfl::?:. The co-ordination b/w the hosts and the award givers could have been a little better.
And like everyone else, the best part undoubtedly was when Abhishek won the award for best supporting actor. Well deserved:hyper:!!!
SRK has gained the same power as Amitabh Bachan. He is not one of my favorites, but he sure is a great actor & has that charisma in him…
And I agree, Veer Zaara’s music was 10 times better than Main Hoon Na’s music.
Well, let’s see how the Zee Cine Awards go next month!

:( On the filmfare night, I was slogging in office :(

Yeah … our abhishek is the best
He respects his father a lot … people should stop seeing him as shadow of his father. He is a good actor too
Yeah actually I just finished watching Yuva last few weeks
His acting is really good … he looked scary in that movie
I almost can’t see the “gentle” Abhishek there
Oh yeah I heard Preity and Rani are good friends. But I just read an article in indiafm, the show, Koffee with Karan. Karan interviewed Rani and Kareena. Rani seems a bit disappointed with Preity.
March 1st, 2005 at 6:48 am
Oh really Mannat???
I thought it was for Veer Zaara…i guess i got them mixed up. Thanks for letting me know.
Totally agree abt. the Swarup CEO. My god. He was horrible and didn’t know what he was doing! Then did you see when Dev Anand came on?? He just started talking without even seeing if Saif Ali Khan and Farida Jalal were talking or not.
We laughed really hard during that time.
Zee Cine are next month?? Cool. Can’t wait to see then.
Aaww bechara Manpreet.
Neeraj was also in the office, if that makes you feel better.
Why was Rani disappointed with Preity Mona? Was that show aired after the Filmfare show?
Sounds like Abhishek really did a good job in Yuva. I will have to watch it.
March 1st, 2005 at 7:12 am
Yeah…that Dev Anand blunder was so:rotfl:…what was up with him.
I totally agree that the hair style didn’t suit Sonu Nigam. I thought that like he was taking off his clothes, he is also going to take off his hair (I kept thinking maybe it’s a wig:lol:)
Yes…Rani & Preity are having some issues. I don’t know about Preity, but Rani sure does not sound happy about something. Even I read that interview with Karan Johar. It was on http://www.indiafm.com yesterday.

Here’s the detail about the Karan Johar’s chit chat with Rani & Kareena

I appreaciated Swades getting enough recognition, though I am not sure who would get any positive effects. The current generation, here in India doesn’t have enough respect for their elders, let alone the ones abroad.
Message to Indians abroad:
I would say if we had few more people like Mohan Bhatnagar, India would be getting better gaster - not everyone has to make dams but help in any way.
Don’t get me wrong, first help your OWN parents back home and then many other people who need you in India.
Warm regards
Manoj Desai

Thats a nice analysis Poonam. Enjoyed reading it. :)
I think, best actor award to Shahrukh is justified. He was so good in his role. I liked the movie. :)

mummmaaaaaaaaa… mere ko filmfare dekhne ka!! and all I got to see was the Oscars… which was not too great either :-s

I made the changes to your link because it was breaking the layout.
I looked @ the link …and that’s very interesting. I didn’t know that Rani and Preity were fighting..very interesting.
Thanks Priya for the compliment.
I try to do my best.
Anyway, Abhishek is my fav..and man was he looking good.
But I like him even more by his very sweet gesture. Don’t tell Neeraj.
Thanks Prasad also for the compliment. If you keep reading, you will get to learn very quickly how much I really like Abhishek Bachchan.
Thanks for stopping by our website Manoj. Just out of curiousity, how did you get to our site…google or another blog?
I think you make a good point about NRIs..it is necessary to take care of your parents..and not be like that one guy in Aa Ab Laut Chalen…i think that many NRIs create this new world for themselves abroad and forget the most important people in their life..their parents. So I think you make a very good point that all NRIs should learn from… Thanks for your thoughts.
Thanks Govind.
Yep I think you are right about SRK…he makes good choices on movies and comes up a winner every year.
Mumma ki bacchi…Rashu dear..when I get home I will send you the VCR tape of the awards show.
March 1st, 2005 at 8:54 pm
Correct for Mannat
that’s the article that I read too … I was surprised too that Preity and Rani have some problems. I thought Rani didn’t have problems with anybody … and lately I heard a lot of bad things about Preity … dunno why …
Kareena and Amisha always have problems … in fact, seems like Amisha has problems almost with everybody
March 1st, 2005 at 9:48 pm
You are SO right about Amisha Patel. It used to be Mahima that used to have problems with everyone..and now its Amisha. Mahima was looking great @ the Filmfare Awards.
Did you see that Shahid was not @ the Filmfare Awards. You would think he wouldn’t miss a chance to be with Kareena @ a function.
March 1st, 2005 at 11:53 pm
o u shud hv seen the dance act by the Big B n B Jr during the tsunami fund raising function… they danced on a remix of One love n rang barse o man that was awesome… not really a hindi song fan but this remix was done amazingly well n more awesome was the show put up by these 2 (all dressed in white)… in one word SMASHING !
am trying to get that remix n even the video… a collectors item to c both of them on stage together…
March 2nd, 2005 at 1:28 am
You know last time when they were not together yet … I was thinking … please please don’t let Shahid ever played a movie together with Kareena
But now in real life they are together

Helloji kee haal chaal hain?
I did not see the awards show, but not many people seemed to be happy with it. Good to read a positive post on it …. achhca hai !
And Anu Mallik for Mai Hoon Na?
Of course, VEER ZAARA was waaaay above that!
Waise, i m still waiting for u to read the story on my blog…ab ek prem kahani, ek premi ne nahin padhi…toh woh koi baat nahin bani na ? its called “Naman-Geeta”
March 5th, 2005 at 3:28 am
Found 2 mishtex, one was pointed by Mannat in comments that Shahrukh got award for Swades n not VZ.
2nd was dat Rani didn’t get best supportin actress for VZ but for Yuva.
Here is a summary of the results.
Overall the show was good, but
Sonali fumbled a lot so did Farida Jalal.
SGI’s CEO was lamest guy I ever saw on TV. Y the hell did u come on stage without knowing wot u r supposed to do? He couldn’t even pronunce Sabu Cyril’s name.
Veer-Zaara as best movie was more like Bush against Kerry (Andhon Mein Kaana Raja)
Saif should have been nominated for best actor instead of Shahrukh in MHN.
Murder, Swades, V-Z, Hum Tum got better music than MHN.
Best Dialogues could have been Musafir or Aitraaz
Gayatari Joshi could have replaced Ayesha Takia for Best Debutant award. She wasn’t even nominated……so I (& Aaina 2) have doubts if Swades was her first movie? [Acc. to IMDB it is]
// These were my personal views and not of the organizations I belong too :P
March 5th, 2005 at 8:31 am
Still haven’t had time to read your story, maybe Sunday.
Yep your two mistaks were correct Gaurav. I wrote this post off the top of my head so mistakes are bound to happen.
Yep SGI CEO was pretty bad and I can’t believe that he wasn’t prompt or anything prior to getting on the stage. The other thing was Dev Anand when he came on the stage to present an award or whatever. That was pretty fun that he cut Saif, Sonali, and Farida off.
I thought that Sonali and Farida did a great job and it was nice to see someone else there other than Archana Puran Singh, Shekar Suman, or SRK/SAK as hosts.
Don’t agree with you on the comment you made about Veer Zaara and the comparison to Bush/Kerry. Just don’t think that it is true but really don’t have the time to bahas about it.
