3 States in 24 Hours!

The past few days have been really busy at work and so I have been kind of behind with the posts and the comments. Hopefully I can be more regular from now on.

So how it works with my company is that if there is ever a weekend that I don’t want to go back home (Illinois) and stay here in Manchester, NH in which I have a few options. First, I can go to another city in the same price as it would take me to go home or I could fly someone in to Manchester. So I chose the latter and brought in my best friend, Beth (who I mention on/off in our blog  ) from my hometown. We haven’t had a chance to spend some good time with each other so we thought this would be the best way.

This map shows Northeast USA -- places where I have been the last 2-3 days

Beth came on Thursday night and I picked her up at Boston’s airport, Logan International Airport. Boston nightline is beautiful! They have a really cool bridge that everyone should see! If you look at the map, you will see that Manchester isn’t too far from Boston (it took about 45 minutes to get there). Thursday night we really didn’t do much because it was almost 9 ish by the time we came back home.

Friday I had to go to work and so I gave the car to Beth so that she wouldn’t be bored @ the hotel. So she roamed around Manchester while I worked. Then @ 3.30 she picked me up, and we decided that we would spend the rest of the day in Portland, Maine. So we got the directions and we were off! Once we entered the state (yes, there is a welcome sign that tells you that you have crossed the border  ), we stopped @ the visitor’s center. We found out what Maine is known for, lighthouses, and decided that we would go and see one. So we got off the highway, took the countryside roads, and saw the real life of Maine. Beautiful. We finally reached the coastline and I was just amazed. I love the ocean..and there I was…. seeing the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. We stopped there, and we took pictures as I stood in the Atlantic Ocean in 10 degree weather!! :rotfl: Then we went further and saw the light house! Wow. That was also a place to see! Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean was this light house — standing tall as can be on an island. Wow.

Then we went through the country roads to the downtown of Portland. Not much was going on so we had dinner @ an Italian restaurant and then saw the fisherman’s wharf and then were ready to go back to Manchester. It took about hour and half to get to Portland, but it took us about 2 and half hours to get back. Why you say??? I was driving and Beth was navigating… let’s just say that Beth got distracted (**cough cough boy was calling her   ) and didn’t tell me which exit to take and so we ended up in Massachusetts!!! If you see on the map, Massachusetts and Maine don’t have a border!! So we went around NH and entered Massachusetts! Amazing! Beth will never live that one down! :rotfl: We eventually made it safely back to the hotel.

Saturday we spent the day in Boston. Downtown Boston is awesome! So much to see in means of US history. We parked at a train station outside of Boston called Alewife. Then took the train into downtown passing colleges such as Harvard and MIT. Once reaching downtown Boston, we went to the visitor’s center (yep that’s like always our first stop  ), and then found out what we wanted to see in Boston. There is something known as the Freedom Trail, and basically you walk and see all of the historical sites. So we spent the whole day looking @ those sites — 2.6 miles one way! It was fun! Saturday was also the anniversary of the Boston Massacre so they were going to do a re-enactment of it later that night. So we decided to stay but it ended up being a waste of time because there were so many people that we couldn’t see anything. Then we went home and Sunday morning Beth had to go home.

So fun filled few days. It was nice. Now I can’t wait to go home on Thursday!!! :hyper: :hyper: I can’t wait to see the family. :hyper: What can I say, I love being around the home.

I love exploring new cities….its so much fun!

And yeah i usually find a info centre first…….. that way u get to find out exactly what’s in the city that’s worth seeing.

I have to say Accenture has a awesome program in regards to allowing u to fly someone over to visit u if u dont want to go home for the weekend

Wow! First trip in US was Boston? Kaise? Because of the uni? Boston was quite nice..i hear everything closes early..and very conservative in means of people..but yes, quite nice place.

Good to see your comment Pareeka! I have been wondering where you have been..and was even thinking abt. emailing you! So glad to see your comment and that you keep reading our blog.

You know this is the first time that i have visited the Visitor Center SO many times! But glad to hear that we were not the only ones that go there.

Seeing new cities are loads of fun especially with the right people. I really can’t wait to travel with my sweetheart (aka Neeraj  ).

Accenture is so demanding in means of work and you have to be away from your family for such long periods of time they have to provide you benefits as this one..so it is nice that you can do that and bring someone in. I can’t wait to bring my parents and brother to Manchester. :hyper:

Glad to see that you are well! Keep commenting!

    Hi

I knew that US has some states which are small, but didn’t know that they were this small. It takes me atleast 45 minutes from my home to Univ and thats when I am driving in non-peak hours and you travelled 2 states :P in 45 minz.

am glad u havin good time!

BTW was it your car that u gave to ur friend Beth or was it a rental car? (I assume rental) – just being a bit technical here, r u allowed to do that acc. to the rental agreement?

  7. Poonam says:

Yep it is pretty cool around here Gaurav that you can go from state to state so quickly. Its the same in IL like it is in CA that in 45 minutes I am still nowhere close to the border of another state.

Now the question about the car rental, yes, it was a car rental, and no, I was not violating any agreement because that is the beauty of working for a firm like Accenture. I will leave it just @ that.
