Bhai Duj Celebration

Posted on November 16th, 2005 by Poonam

I come home every night thinking that I will sit down and write a post today but then either Neeraj and I get busy doing something else (last night was arranging music for the party), and then the post doesn’t get written.

Today now I am at work, and I shouldn’t be writing from here, but I am going to otherwise this will not get done.

Bhai Duj

My family celebrated Bhai-Duj on this past Sunday in Chicago. My father’s side of the family is all in Chicago and so all of us cousins get together to do tikka. This Bhai-Duj was a special one because I had that special person (Neeraj, you silly goose  ) with me. He was going to meet the rest of the family for the first time. We had watched some old videos of my cousin’s wedding just so he can get familiar with who is who.

Everybody welcomed him with open arms — it was really great. All of the cousins were very nice and sweet, and my buas/chachas were great as well. They were all worried that Neeraj was going to be overwhelmed with seeing so many people (my father is one of seven brothers and sisters) but needless to worry, Neeraj comes from a big family himself so he had no problems at all.

It was really wonderful finally to let everyone know about Neeraj, who he is, etc… Now we have everything in the open; who knows this blog might also get unprotected one of these days. Hmm…we will see.

Engagement Rings

As we were waiting for one of my buas to come back from work to start the tikka on Sunday, my cousin had asked if Neeraj and I wanted to go to the mall with her to check out the engagement rings. She knew of a jewellery store where she had bought my jiju’s ring and thought we could give it a shot there.

We had looked at jewellery stores in our area, but Neeraj wanted some type of stone or diamond on his ring which we were unable to find here. We found two beautiful rings at the jewellery shop we went to with my cousin on Sunday. They are practically a matching pair and in our price range. They should be ready this Saturday as they have been sent for re-sizing and then my bua will go pick it up for us.

Now this Saturday we are going back to Chicago/Devon to get my dress:!: We bought Neeraj’s suit (which is looking so dashing on him  ) and new shoes as well, but once we have my dress, we will coordinate what shirt/tie he is going to wear.

No he isn’t wearing a sherwani, and if you want to find out why — ask him:!: :irked: I am kidding. Actually he doesn’t have a sherwani here, and its going to be too expensive to buy it from here. We are already buying my dress which will be dang expensive out of majboori because we can’t get one from India in such short notice. Khair jo bhi ho, aacha ho.

Work has been horribly busy and don’t have a minute to even breathe at times. I am currently providing specific security training to over 200 security, technical, systems, and business analysts which keeps me quite busy. Then I will provide more high-level training to management in December. Along with that, I am transitioning my work to another person as she will be taking over for me on January 1st. I will then be working full time on another security project at this client.

Another post definitely coming up in the next day or two. So watch out for that. For now:

Alvida. Jai Mata Di.
