Lakshmi’s Marriage

Posted on June 22nd, 2006 by Poonam

Neeraj’s younger sister, Lakshmi, was getting married on 30th April, 2006 in Kota, Rajasthan. We arrived in Delhi from Chicago on the night of the 28th of April, and Neeraj took the next morning first train to Kota.

The festivities (Lagan, Ladies Sangeet, etc…) had already started prior to Neeraj reaching Kota, and unfortunately I also wasn’t able to be part of any of it. My grandmother had said that I shouldn’t go to my in-laws prior to my marriage, and hence was not able to attend Lakshmi’s marriage. Now after watching the wedding videos, I wish too that I had been there.

My parents attended the wedding, and so they left early morning from Delhi on the 30th of April to reach on time.

The wedding went very smoothly, with Neeraj’s nephews & nieces dancing the night away. His niece, Gudden, stayed awake all night till the time her Lakshmi Bua’s doli had left.

An interesting note is that Lakshmi’s nanad’s marriage had occurred on the 29th of April, day before her own in the same marriage hall.

Overall the marriage occurred with full success and tons of fun/masti by everyone, but as it sometimes occurs there was a bit of an hungama too. Three thieves got into the room where all of Neeraj’s family belongings were being stored. Fortunately during the same time, Neeraj’s eldest brother, Satish Bhaiya, had also entered the room. After a few dhaka-dhaki, Satish Bhaiya got them out of the room, but then the thieves locked him in the room. Satish Bhaiya had to break the window glass in order to get out of the room because no one was around to hear him. He did hurt his hand because of that, but as well justice was served as the thieves were caught — without taking a single piece of jewellery or other belongings.

Most likely the thieves had seen that there was a marriage that occurred the night before and again the next night — so they might thought there was plenty of “loot” for them. :irked: Boy did they get a lesson.

Lakshim and her husband, Pramod, have settled in Kota. We wish them the very best always:!:

Alvida. Jai Mata Di.
