Recently we have been able to catch up on a lot of movies that I would like to share our views on, and there are also a lot of movies that are coming up that we want to see.
First on the ones we have saw. ![]()
First we will start with Lage Raho Munnabhai.
What a great movie:!: This was absolutely wonderful with a great plot and showing a good point.
There is a need of movies like this one to prove a point to the audience. I liked everything about this – and didn’t think anything was offensive at all in regards to the whole chatter around the word Gandhigiri. Theek hai yaar, atleast they tried to make these types of movies.
Well Done:!:
Then there was the remake of Don.
From day one, I had thought that this movie might be alright, but I felt that Shah Rukh did not possess the look, feel, or voice of a Don. Amitabh definitely had that, now granted I had not seen the old Don prior to seeing the new one, but I had heard the songs and seen clips.
Overall, the remake was pretty good – first half slow, second half picked up really nice. I didn’t like Boman Irani’s acting at all – he was alright.
The idea was really good and making the various changes from the old version was good.
I did end up seeing the old Don with Amitabh in the main role, and definitely it was better than the new one.
Old is gold.
Last Saturday night we saw Jaan-E-Mann which was average. Akshay Kumar was good in the beginning and in the flashback, but towards the end became pretty annoying.
Salman Khan was average, and Preity Zinta didn’t have that strong of a role. Overall it was funny, but not hilarious.
Songs were decent.
Another great movie that we saw was Khosla ka Ghosla. Now if you haven’t seen this movie, I highly suggest that you go get this one at your nearest video store.
Another great story and great acting by Anupam Kher, Parvin Dabbas, and the entire cast.
Showing what a middle class family goes through, especially in today’s quick changing Indian lifestyle, it was well made.
Neeraj and I really loved this movie, and I think that there is something that can be learnt from this as well by each young adult watching.
Well done and go check it out:!:
Other movies that we brought home that I fell asleep watching was Omkara and Aap Ki Khatir. Because I fell asleep, I really can’t comment.
Of course we did see Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, and yes, I thought the second half was really good.
Abhishek did great acting, and I don’t care what anyone says, the second half of the movie was very emotional and well made. First half was a waste, and Amitabh’s character would have been better if it was not there.
Shah Rukh and Rani’s characters were also not well developed — too shady for me.
New movies that I am looking forward to seeing is Dhoom 2.
I think with the cast that they have, it should be a good movie – let’s see how the sequel turns out after certain sequels have recently flopped like Krrrish.
Then there is also Vivaah which I am interested in for two reasons: (1) its a Sooraj Barjatya film, and I loved Hum Aapke Hain Koun and (2) Amrita Rao’s character’s name is Poonam:!:

Other movies that will be playing in our movie theatre are Umrao Jaan, Baabul, and Guru.
Umrao Jaan’s music is not bad, but we have decided that we will watch that on DVD. It doesn’t look spectactular.
I do want to see Baabul and Guru. The latter looks like another Yuva type movie from the trailer, so hopefully that will be good.
I have downloaded the songs of Baabul, and I think they are quite good. Only time will tell on what the movie will be like.
So there’s an update. What movies have you seen that are good or worth seeing?
Alvida. Jai Mata Di.
Poonam, what a great post!! I am impressed with the way you have written about the recent movies. How well you have all posters fit at various places in the post:thumbsup:! You should be a web page designer by profession:smile:.
Even WE absolutely enjoyed Lage Raho Munnabhai & seriously did not find the use of the word Gandhigiri offensive…..movie was Fab…Vidya Balan…songs…
DON – again enjoyed the movie….Though would not want to compare it with the old one…I truly want to give credit to Farhan Akhtar for his version…I loved the stunts in the movie…
Ohh Sahi Poonam, Khosla Ka Ghosla is a FUN movie…middle class punjabi type…ache lage…fav one was Ranvir in the movie…
You should see Pyaar Ke Side Effects…will like the movie…
Umrao Jaan…what a Jhel…ask me…:(
No Comments on KANK.
Waiting for Dhoom:2…its releasing on 24th Nov…& Guru & Babul & a whole buncha movies…
Still have to watch Dor & Woh Lamhe.
woww there are a lot of movies that you have watched
I just watched some of the movies …
I can’t wait to watch Don, honestly it’s just because of SRK
I want to watch Aap Ki Khatir, I read the review and I think the story is quite interesting.
I have watched KANK, and I don’t like it! The best part of that movie is only Abhishek
The story is almost same with one of old Hollywood movie.
Agree with you
I really want to watch Dhoom 2 and Vivah. Dhoom 1 is really great, of course want to watch the sequel and Abhishek
Can’t wait to watch Vivah too, Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor is my favourite couple in movies. They are so cute together.
There are a lot of Abhishek’s movies coming … good good
We are the biggest Abhishek’s fans
None of these movies watched…
Maybe coz Im a very busy person…
Loved Munnabhai. I wish such movies are made more often.
I really wanna watch Khosla Ka Ghosla. Have heard good reviews on that movie. probably will rebt it next weekend.
As for KANK, I thought the movie was dragged way too much. I also thought that Sharukh’s character was a total waste. Rani was ok and so was Priti. But I agree, Abhishek was the one with who stole the show. As for Amitabh, I just don’t know why he took this role.
I watched Pyar Ke Side Effects. Wonderful movie.
Also watched some low profile movies like Dor, Water, Bas Ek Pal, Aahista Aahista. All could be watched once.
I am also eagerly waiting for Vivah and Dhoom2.
Vivah from the promo suggest very cute chemistry between shahid and amrita.
Munnabhai was nicely thought movie. We need movies like this who are socially responsible and convey eye opening messages in sutle manner
hmm..I too absolutely loved Lage Raho Munnabhai! It was awesome and I too did not have a problem with the word Gandhigiri..if its for a good purpose…why not?? right?
Don – aaah I havent seen the old Don and I had not even seen clips but yes, heard the song and knew of the plotline. I liked the new one. Now granted I am a die hard SRK fan so I really liked him in the movie. Although, I did not think he was that great in Vijay’s part – looked too made up. Direction was pretty good, fast paced and kept me hooked..I also thought Om Puri was completely wastedi n the movie :(
Jaan-e-mann I feel the same as you do..just okay movie timepass
and I bought your recommendation Khosla Ka Ghosla last week..havent seen it yet..cant wait. Have you seen Pyar Ke Side Effects? I have heard decent reviews :)
ofcourse GURU is MUCH MUCH awaited by me!!!! the plot, mani ratnam, and ofcourse AB’s baby
Thanks Neeru.
Yup Mehak those movies were great.
Not going to see any Mallika Sherawat movies.
Umrao Jaan no good??
I think Mona that Aap ki Khatir could have been better, but they just didn’t make it interesting.
Let me know what you think once you have seen it.
You are right on being Abhishek’s biggest fans.
Aacha busy person Ankur??
Hum timepass ke liye bhi time nikaalte hain.
Did you get to see Khosla ka Ghosla Mannat??
Let me know what you thought. Agree on KANK, but I still liked the second half.
We have Dor @ home but haven’t watched it.
Definitely want to see Vivah as well Mitra, but just read the review on Rediff, and they were pretty harsh on the movie.
I saw the old Don after seeing the new one too Kaush dear, you should definitely see it:!: The older one was better, I totally agree.
Actually Amitabh is more convincing than Shah Rukh Khan.
I have refused to watch any Mallika Sherawat movies, so I will not watch Pyar ke Side Effets.
Yup, I can’t wait for Guru as well:!:
i somehow liked kanh… loads of ppl were disappointed with it here… songs were nice, ab n ab jr were great… somehow i felt this was not really a srk movie…
neways LRM awesome! the other day i was so stressed at work i started watching it n just ff thru the entire movie! but was in a good mood after that…
damn i hv to catch up with so many movies!
i didn’t like Amitabh’s role in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna Kunal, i thought it was a waste. But Abhishek was awesome:!:
It seems that you need to catch up on the movies:!:
