Happenin’s in NP’s World

Posted on November 15th, 2006 by Poonam

So I am back to my regular writing and ranting about what is happening in NP’s world as well as current events. As you can see, Bollywood is a main topic of discussion for me due to my love of movies and of course Abhishek Bachchan.

So here’s another dose of Happenings in NP World:

  • You would be surprised to note that even though I don’t have any Indian channels (due to our balcony facing the wrong direction in our apartment :irked: ), I am still pretty well up to date on the TV serials. How? My dear sweet Mumma. The newest show she likes is Bigg Boss on Sony.
  • I have had the opportunity to watch a few episodes last weekend, and the concept is based on the US show Big Brother, and its a good one.
  • I hear the big surprise was the replacement for Sahil Ankola, which is Deepak Tijori. Should be interesting how things turn out - but I hope that Rupali isn’t hte one that leaves in this next episode.
  • I read a horrible review for Vivaah on Rediff. Pretty appaling on their views of the movie - but the concept is still good enough for me to go watch when it comes out on DVD.
  • This weekend the parents and bro are coming down to our place as we go see Amit Kumar (Kishore Kumar’s son) in concert (amongst other people like Sadhna Sargam):!:  I am totally excited - we had seen him live about five years ago at the same place, and it was awesome:!: This time we have even better seats — front row!!!
  • I hear its suppose to snow tomorrow. Please no, my commute will be twice or thrice as horrible as usual.
  • Neeraj and I are going to go mattress shopping for our second bedroom in our apartment. With my parents coming this weekend, we would definitely need a place for them to sleep.
  • Neeraj has been coming home pretty late these days because of a new release going into production today. I haven’t been the happiest camper to see him come home late.
  • Somewhere I read that Payal Rothagi was in 36, China Town. I didn’t even know she was in that movie:!:
  • Even though people have said that they liked Pyar ke Side Effects I wasn’t impressed by the trailers, and I definitely won’t go see a Mallika Sherawat movie - even if any of her movies becomes the Hit of the Century:!: :irked: :banghead:
  • What’s up with this whole idea of domestic airlines in India charging so much in taxes/fuel surcharges/fees??? I was looking at flights the other day and taxes/fees are more than the actual ticket:!: :irked: I think there is something wrong with this picture.
  • Thanksgiving week is next week - that means that its a short week for those who are working (I have the week off because I start the new job on following Monday  ), and also Black Friday is just around the corner. :hyper:
  • Haven’t heard of Black Friday? Check out this previous post. I have been looking at the store ads on the net, and there are some good deals. I am excited:!: :hyper:
  • Main thing that I want to buy is an external portable hard drive. Our PC is already out of space, due to the DVDs that are taking up space, so I am in dire need of the 250 GB of space that this portable hard drive has for $39.99. Can’t get a better deal than that.
  • Gas prices not bad right now in MO - $2.06/gal compared to Morton being $2.40/gal. Such a difference:!:
  • Do you know how many people I run into on a weekly basis that are ignorant about India?? :irked: TOO MANY :!: :irked:
  • How do I know? Because I get asked stupid questions like, why are cows sacred in India???? Its like asking an American, “why do you eat meat”? Come on folks, get with the program.
  • Christmas is around the corner (its going to be even closer once next week is over  ), and I still have to make a wishlist. So many things I would love to have.
  • The wishlist will go to my family and my friends who we exchange Christmas gifts with - I just don’t know what Neeraj & I need yet.
  • Neeraj and I are planning a trip to India soon - this time we are going to surprise Neeraj’s family. We have a big things planned for them. :hyper:
  • Had a Iced Mocha for $2.50 just a few minutes ago at the coffee shop downstairs @ the office - sweet but too much ice. :irked:
  • Now wishing that I could be home — only two or so more hours to go.

    Alvida. Jai Mata Di.

You know I saw Pyar Ke Side Effects just today and its funny you mention it in your post…I hate Mallika too..butI liked this movie..its comedy full of puns but I liked it for the main part of the sasur-damat jhagda..a lot of the things that happen in the movie are very anecdotal esp the sasur-damat part and B saw it first and asked me to watch it coz there are a few lines in the movie that happened exactly with us..so I loved it..maybe you will too ;)

Thanksgiving holidays are always a funtime…apna wishlist yahaa bhi post karna..hum bhi dekhe ;)

btw when are you guys going to India??? I know we talked about this..but I dont rememeber :(

    2. kaush Says:

waise I wanna watch Vivaah too..not a big fan of the songs but I think it might be worth a watch too :) Have fun with the family and yea..just a few more days of that long drive to work :hyper:

    3. Mehak Says:

every1 is soo bitchy……but love to watch Rakhi Sawant :P …n now Deepak Tijori has come in…

yeah even I read Vivaah’s review on Rediff…n they said we won’t give this movie a single star…isint that too rude..but the movie has bombed big time in India..& I have heard from a frend that its doing pretty well in the UK.

ohh wow so the family unites for a concert…soo sweet..have fun u guys…n happy mattress shopping :P

I havint seen 36 China Town…yeah yaha par taxes are 950/- + …n petrol ke toh baat he mat karo..its on FIRE…

My family is US is all ready for thanksgiving/christmas shopping……mujhe bhi shopping spree pe jaana hai :( :(

wow 250 GB of space in that portable hard-drive…wow thats toooo much na…i recently got one..but it has 80GB of space…

Some ppl are way to ignorant…they won’t even know where on the world map India is…

ohh comin to India..wah jee wah….

    4. Poonam Says:
 @ Kaush. Itna sab kya? Thoda hi toh tha. No way - chahe jo bhi ho jaaye I cannot sit through a Mallika Sherawat film.

Wishlist post karongi jarur - kuch leke dene wali hai kya?

India jaane ka plan yahan par post nahi kar sakti - shall tell you on the phone. Hamara surprise leak nahi ho jaaye in any case if any of Neeraj’s relatives come and visit the site.

I also want to see Vivaah chahe jaise bhi ho. Yup today is my last day with the commute:!: :hyper:

You like Rakhi Mehak? She can definitely be funny, but I think my favorite is Carol & Rupali. Carol is sweet spoken and Rupali makes me laugh. Definitely true that all they do is talk behind each other’s backs.

Thanks - mattress is going to be delivered today.

Rs. 950 taxes for airlines??? :???: I think its more than that - its well over 1000 rupees:!:

Totally agree on the ignorancy and not knowing where even India is on the map. Its sad that it is like that - the other day we had gone to an Indian restaurant for my farewell, and one of my colleagues is from Africa, and he says “do I have to take off my shoes before I enter the restaurant?” :???: I was pretty disgusted. :talktothehand:

    5. mannat Says:

I hate Big Boss… but at the same time I am hooked to it:( Heard bad reviews on Vivaah…but I am sure I will like the movie.
Chalo…snow tou nahi hui…although the temps have dropped down quite a bit.
Mattress shopping? What a coincidence…Aman & I are doing the same on the weekend. But we know where exactly we are going and what we are getting.
Even I hate Mallika Sherawat (well, who doesn’t?)…but still, I loved Pyaar Ke Side Effects.

    6. Manpreet Says:

Whew.. thats a big list!! lots of things going on at your end…

Firstly… yes.. airlines in india are charging way to much in form of taxes and fuel surcharges!! But, I guess they have no other option… ‘coz they are already experiencing heavy losses.. i wonder till when are they going to offer these low-cost seats….!!

Mallika Sherawat… hehe… I actually liked her in PKSE… nice movie to watch… Actually.. none of Rahul Bose’s movies has ever disappointed me… he’s a fine actor.. and movie maker!!

250gb for 40$.. thats awesome… i got it for about 4.5k here… !! BTW, when is this black friday? My cousin is comin from US in couple of weeks time.. will ask him to get some goodies for me :P

Have seen couple of BigBoss episodes on the LAN.. yeah they are available on the intranet here :)… but didn’t liked them at all… doesn’t seem to be reality shows at all… !!

Snow.. wow.. cool.. and here in mumbai.. the weather sucks… its humid.. and i hate it…!!

    7. Mehak Says:

Yeah Rakhi is the Mirch Masala in BIG BOSS…hey esstyle…dancing…way of talking n all…is pretty entertaining…now she has a crush on Amit Sadh….

The taxes are different for each airline…for some its 950..for some its 1100….

    8. Kunal Says:

yeah taxes are more then the tix price !!! :D

      o btw WHEN R U COMING TO INDIAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!

we def hv to meet if u dropping in good old bombay!

    9. Poonam Says:
 @ Mannat. I can totally understand the love/hate relationship you have with the Bigg Boss show.

I just find it to be so odd Manpreet that taxes will cost more than your own ticket:!: :irked: And I am not looking at the Rs.9 ticket, I am looking at Rs. 1500 and still tax is more:!:  Gadbad hai.

Black Friday is on 24th November.

Rakhi better not let Neeru Baweja find out that she has a crush on Amit Sadh Mehak, warna bahut badi jung ho jaane wali hai. I think they do that crap to make it more exciting. :fiery:

We are definitely will come to Mumbai Kunal because my family is there - so shall let you know.

    10. Beth Says:

talk about the quick and dirty lists of things going on. hahaha.

    11. Kelly Stevens Says:

      Hi Poonam,

Just wanted to tell you that you can watch the hindi tv shows on http://www.india-forums.com OR http://www.muftonline.com

      Regards,
      Kelly

    12. Poonam Says:
      @ Beth.

Thanks for the info Kelly. In fact I watch Nach Baliye on Muftonline. But the quality usually isn’t that great. No fun to sit at the PC for that long to watch all of the other serials in such poor quality.

    13. Mehak Says:

yeah I guess its all done to increase the viewer ship & generate more moolah…

    14. Kelly Stevens Says:

Yeah you are right Poonam the quality isn’t that great….
