Current Tune: Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

So NP.com has a new look - still working out the tweaks. If you find any problems, please let us know.
Last night, Neeraj and I went to see the 9pm Jhoom Barabar Jhoom show at the movie theatre. I was pretty psyched for it, and Neeraj didn’t think it was going to be too good.

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - 2007

For those who have not seen the movie, we have only one tip for you: you better like the title track of the movie because you are gonna hear it alot :!:

Overall, I thought it was a good entertainer, and Neeraj, who is a tougher critic than me, said it was above average. The movie started off great with one of the versions of the title track with Amitabh Bachchan and his odd, but good get-up. Then as my fav, Abhishek Bachchan, entered the film, the movie got more interesting and entertaining. There were some great comic pieces between him and Preity Zinta.

I don’t want to give the story away, so I am just going to say that the first half of the story is very different in pace compared to the second half, but both are very creatively made and interesting. I was very impressed with Lara Dutta’s acting style — I have a new found respect for her. Shaadi Ali did a great job in directing, including little pieces that made you reminsce like a scene from Sholay (a film famous for Abhishek’s father and Bobby Deol’s father, and now seeing the second generation doing that scene was very cool. ).

As for the thing that blew me away was the choreography :!: Wow, what splendidly done. Even the songs that I hated to listen to in the car from this movie, I was just jhoom’ng too because of how well it was choreographed. Hats off!

Pros: great choreography, great music, great story, and great acting (all four were great), comic sense of all four actor/actresses was awesome! It was really great how they incorporated the whole Princess Diana/Dodi episode into the story-line, well done!

Cons: dress style (Abhishek was pretty poorly dressed throughout the film), didn’t like Deol or Abhishek’s hair, at one scene Preity’s tattoo flipped from one side to the other , during the Paris scenes — too much French without enough translation.

I don’t read any of the reviews (especially Rediff because they are always way off from my taste), so I don’t really care what the critics say, but I really liked the film. Would I go see it again? Most likely yes.

So guys check it out once if you haven’t yet, you will get your $$ worth.

Alvida. Jai Mata Di.

I love the JBJ songs, and that’s it. I felt I wasted three hours watching this. I watched A Mighty Heart the other night, and it was AWESOME!! Go watch it.

  12. kaush Says:

    psssst…blog stat not dikhing :faint:

  13. Manpreet Says:

I didn’t liked the movie simply because it had too many flaws:
    1. Pathetic storyline - the biggest flaw. It looks more like a video album to me!!
    2. Poor acting by AB (both Jr. & Sr.) and Lara Dutta.. I couldn’t understand neither her Hindi/English or French :P.
    3. Extremely poor direction

    Need I say anymore?

  14. Poonam Says:
    Thanks Indu.

I can help you with that Kaush dear…it took me a while before it started working. Yep I have to fix the stats — I keep forgetting. Shall do it today. Thanks for reminding!

Why was the storyline pathetic Manpreet? Did you know what was going to happen in the second half? I would doubt it. If I don’t know what’s going to happen in the second half, I call it a pretty good movie right there. What acting did Amitabh do???? He just danced every time he came on screen, so really can’t count that as acting. As for Abhishek, tell me what about his acting was so bad???

As for Lara Dutta, I understood her very easily, and in fact she did the French accent really good.

What it seems like to me is that this movie is going to better for the overseas crowd than India.

  15. Aman Says:

Well, you won’t see me on blogs… at least not on non-technicat (or security ones) but on this one… I can’t agree more with Manpreet…. for me too, one of the WORST movies in a long time. All actors got to show the worst in them, thanks to the mis-direction (accept music).
