New Home Update…Aur New…..

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

Its been long since I posted….I know I know. The last week at work was really busy with me tryiing oust multiple fires at one time. :hot: :fiery: Then the weekend comes, and Neeraj and I try to catch up on all the things we had said we would do during the week.

So finally I have put up our house photos, but you will have to ask me for the link. So if I have already not sent you the link to where they are stored (they are somewhere else other than this site), then send me a quick email or IM, and it will soon be in your inbox.

We had our house inspection today, and there were only two minor things noticed by the inspector. So we will talk to our agent tomorrow, and get that back to the sellers’ to fix.

As you may have known, I had gotten a new phone when I was in India in March. At that time I had asked Neeraj if he also wanted to get one in India, but he said no. He wanted to get a PDA phone, like Palm Treo or Blackberry in the US. So I said okay, we will wait until our contract is up in August/September of this year to get you a new phone, and until then, you should research what you want to get.

Neeraj did some research, and then two weeks back we had gone to this mall that has a store that we don’t visit often. I had some work that I needed to do so I told Neeraj that we will meet back in about 10 minutes. I called him to find out where he was, and I found out that he was at that store (the one that we don’t visit that often).

So I went in, found him, and asked what he was looking at — and he says to me, “I think I found it.” I asked him, “What did you find?”, and he says, “My new phone. ”

So we both played around that phone for a while, and I kept asking if it had all the features we both wanted (ability to use calendar quickly, have a stylus or way to write down stuff in the phone, email and web capabilities, etc..). He showed me all the different things it could do; you could even store music. :eyebrow: Being me, I wanted to be convinced totally. So we went down to the AT&T store on the first floor and took a hard try on all of the other phones that Neeraj said that he wanted (Blackberry and all its versions, and Palm Treo and its versions).

At the end, he liked the phone that he saw first. So last Saturday we finally bought it, and I would have to say this is the first time this company has finally made a decent product  We both have so far been very happy for what we have paid for - and yes, we paid a handful.

So which phone was it? Guesses? I bet you know by now. You darn smart people.
Yes, it is…………….

GMAT Over, 2 Movies, 1 Good, the other…. Mention Not.

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

So after the two weeks of major studying, its finally over, and we took the GMAT on last Sunday. Last weekend was overall alot of fun. Papa had to come to STL due to his work, so he was here since Thursday night. He came over to our home for dinner that night, and then we saw him again on Friday night for dinner. Then on Saturday afternoon, Mumma and Suraj were going to come because we were going to go see the movie, Partner at the movie theatre. So in the morning, Neeraj and I got all of our studying done and then they were here by 5ish in the evening. We chilled out, ate some of my baked tomato, onion, and cheese tortellini that I had made, and just had a great time together. We went out to eat and then went to watch Partner. The movie was ok — at times it was funny, but overall not a winner with any of us. The storyline wasn’t really strong at all, but the acting was pretty good and songs were really good. We got out of the movie theatre after midnight and headed back to our apartment.

Mission Successful, but the Studying Continues…

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Finally got some time to write this post. The week has gone by very quickly. Now its the explanation of the surprise which is the interesting part of this post.

Mumma and Papa reached St. Louis on Friday the 13th of July quite late (11.30 pm), as you must have read in the last post. Finally getting the baggage, we headed out of the airport at around 12.30 am. We decided that we would all stay at Neeraj and my apartment and leave in the morning for Morton. We did just that, got home and watched some TV, chit chatted, and were off to bed.

In the morning, I had the alarm for 6.15am, so that we could quickly get up and leave for Morton. We ended up leaving around 7ish and on the road. Mumma was pretty tense because she knew that that with my thoujee (Papa’s elder brother, who we call Vicky Papa) and his family were going to arrive in Morton around 12 pm. She knew that she had a lot to do, cooking wise.

Airlines and Flights - Unpredictability on the Rise

Friday, July 13th, 2007

So we have been thrown a bit of a curveball. :lookaround: Parents had a flight on American Airlines from Dallas and was suppose to land in STL at 7pm this evening. We were then going to make the three hour journey to Morton, unfortunately I got a call around 4.30ish from Mumma sayins that the flight has been delayed half hour. No worries, we would still reach on time and get out of STL on good schedule.

Then another call from Mumma at around 6, their plane, which was coming from Miami, has not shown up yet, so they are still delayed for another half hour. So I told her that she and Papa should go and get some food because I bet they are hungry. Unfortunately they did not find anything vegetarian so only got a milkshake from McDonalds.

Then I got another call 20 minutes later from Mumma. The plane had landed but the flight crew left because their 8 hour shift was over so now they had a plane (which had an issue which was trying to be fixed) as well as no flight crew. :irked: I just can imagine Papa getting really antsy. She said that they had told them another hour so and they should be on the way.

Mumma was saying that everyone was very upset with the airline, and that the employees even called security to the gate area for further assistance in case there was any type of rumbling between the airline employees and the customers. Airlines really need to get their act together. :duh:

Its now 7 and we get a call from Papa. They are still at the Dallas airport unfortunately the situation is no better. They have decided to get another plane and get another flight crew which will take time. They will tell an hour’s time. I had told Papa to try for other flights, and he said that he tried for everything (Springfield, Peoria, Chicago, etc..) but nothing was successful. :irked: He only got two things: (1) Wait for this flight (2) or the very worst to be on the first flight to STL Saturday morning (that’s cutting it real close to our surprise :!: ).

A few more calls in between to find out that Mumma and Papa were given free vouchers to eat food and so they have eaten, which I am relieved.

Last call — they are finally on the plane (it was 9.45pm), and they will reach in about an hour and 17 minutes. Neeraj and I will go pick them up from the STL airport at around 11.15ish. We have decided that they will stay the night here at our place, and then tomorrow morning we will make the trek to Morton.

Still cutting it close to the surprise, but Suraj is aware of everything…he is keeping down the fort in Morton and will make sure that the surprise……remains a surprise.

Current Tune: Apne Toh Apne Hote Hain - Apne

Many things to say, many places to start….from where should I start? Well, keep listening to the song, by the end of this post you will know why I chose this song.

Good place to start…..the news.

Congrats to the Taj! Taj Mahal was named as one of the modern 7 wonders of the world. I know that my American friends when they had come to India for Neeraj and my marriage, and we had taken them to the Taj Mahal, they were amazed by its beauty. Its more amazing in person for those who have not seen it. Congrats to all of the other 6 wonders as well, but definitely we are very happy for our Taj Mahal.

We came home for lunch today only to find out on Star News (these so very vela news company :irked: ) talking about people seeing a UFO (unidentified flying object) in Delhi, Jaipur, and some other place that starts with a K! Outrageous!!! :banghead: They kept on showing the same 3 second clip over and over again which you can’t even make out if its a UFO or an airplane. People who were telling over the phone in the news broadcast about what they had saw mentioned that they were outside watching this so-called UFO for three hours! If they were watching it for three hours, then why show us the same 3 second clip???? Not impressed. Star News always shows these really outrageous news stories — NDTV Zindabad!!!

Just when I thought I had seen enough pagalpanti for the day, I didn’t know what was going to happen to me in the latter part of the day. :irked: I came across this news story as I surfed the net. Rename India to Hindustan, but why???? Rename the Arabian Sea….again, but why??? Do you people not have anything else to do than to think of things to rename?? Geez, Bombay to Mumbai….Poona to Pune….Madras to Chennai….Baroda to Vadodara…:irked: Enough with the name changing and go on with your lives!!!

One other big thing happening in our life…. Neeraj and I are finally giving the GMAT (after a long awaited wait  ). Its scheduled for 29th July at 3pm…………. so we are now studying diligently (atleast trying  ) for it.

Current Tune: Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

Another weekend passes…it passes just like another day. At times we feel there isn’t time in the day or enough days in a week to accomplish anything and everything. :banghead: Oh well, life goes on…..

NP.com has made its first $100 from Google Ads!! Exciting news after it took us….a year!!!

The past two weekends we have been heading back to Morton. Two weekends ago it was Suraj’s birthday, and then last weekend we had to get our dear Sonu (our Hyundai Sonata, pyaar se hum usko Sonu bulaate hain  ) an oil change. Yes, we trek three hours over to Morton to get an oil change because we had gotten a deal through the dealer when we bought the car. The weekend ended up being lots of fun — I had wanted to go see Ocean’s Thirteen, and I had thought that Suraj, Neeraj, and myself could go on Saturday. Unfortunately Suraj beat us to it and had gone on Friday. He enjoyed which was good.

Bday of My Bro, Other Updates

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Hopefully you all enjoyed looking @ the pics of the anniversary party. Neeraj and I were happy with the success of it. Now our home is back to being empty - with just the two of us, as Neeraj’s parents have gone back to India. They left the day after the anniversary party as we drove up to Chicago to drop them off at the airport.

In a way it was perfect timing for them to be back home with Neeraj’s elder brother and sister-in-law because very soon after the state of Rajasthan was closed due to the rioting of the Gujjar community. It hit the heart of Rajasthan, and also the heart of Neeraj’s family, as the cities affected were all around Hindaun City (Neeraj’s hometown). Thankfully Neeraj’s family (brothers & sisters and their families) are all fine and safe. The atmosphere is much better but for a few days the market was closed, and it was very tough to leave the house.

So now what are Neeraj and I doing with the time? Well we have been relaxing. But we have lots to do — such as look for a house!! Yes, Neeraj and I are getting ready to move into our first house. Since the past few months, well actually ever since we have been married, we have been leaving in various apartments. Now we have found the city where we want to settle (O’Fallon) and so we are looking for a house near our office. Currently we have a mere 1 minute commute, and we would like to keep it that way. That being said, we have slowly started looking at various homes on the Internet in our area, and soon will go physically to look at the houses. We hope to be moved in by the end of September (our lease at our current apartment will end then).

Neeraj and I haven’t bought each other an anniversary gift yet, as we were waiting to buy a new plasma or LCD TV once we move into our house. Looking forward to that.

We haven’t seen any movies for a while either!!! Neeraj and I both want to see Shootout at Lokhandwala and then once its released, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. There are some great sequels that are out in the English front such as Shrek 3, Spiderman 3, Rush Hour 3, Ocean’s Thirteen, and Pirates of the Caribbean, One of these nights will be movie night for us.

Its my dear brother’s birthday today!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY Suraj!!!!! I hope that you had a great day today. We celebrated with him and the parents yesterday which was lots of fun. Neeraj and I love getting together with them. We gave Suraj half of his gift (a baseball PS2 game) yesterday and will give him the rest of the gift next month when we go to a Chicago Cubs baseball game.

So I guess that’s it — I want to make some changes around this space, so keep in eye out. Nothing is easy and nothing works quickly, but definitely I am going to try to stay on pace and keep writing more often.
